(1.37:1 is true (non-anamorphic) 35mm film aspect. Also the aspect for 35mm film photographic still cameras.)

They could just zoom and pan & scan for these screens, like the old fullscreen home video versions for 4:3 TVs j/k please don't hit me

Actually, I wish I lived near an IMAX 70mm so I could see 2001: A Space Odyssey.
I thought the IMAX release was not 15/70

...hmmm, I didn't realize it's also playing in IMAX digital. ...not sure if it's playing at my local, it's not showing advance ticketing if it is.

It was opened up for the whole battle. It first opens up when Cap first walks onto the tarmac and it goes back to scope after Tony kneels next to Rhodes after he crashes.

It's playing Memphis for a week, if we got it, it should be everywhere.

Yeah, limited release, sometimes we get those, sometimes not, I'll have to keep my eyes peeled, if they don't do advance ticketing, it may not be listed until middle of the week before the showing.

(The IMAX nearest me is digital 2K (x2), opened in 2012, but, it is 4 stories high and always well maintained and calibrated, comfy leather seats that move back some, armrests w/cup holder can be up or down, no seats on the floor, it's done well, but, yes, it's 1.90:1 floor to ceiling, and I don't have a problem with that. Overall it is a better experience than regular cinema.)

I do believe ALL of the initial Laser installations were done in full 15/70 AR screens, the very first one was Toronto's Scotiabank. If you have a chance to see a flick in one that has full AR IMAX scenes, your life will change!

I didn't think the TCL Chinese Theatre was a 4:3 screen though

No, it's 2.00:1. Same ratio as 'Jurassic World.'

I would assume they crop and fill the screen then. I believe AMC Empire has a 2.00 screen as well and Avengers 1 completely filled it, while Kips Bay seems to mostly do that with its scope screen (the one exception I've seen is Riddick which was pillarboxed, but unlike 2.00 which is at least closer cropping of scope can really throw off the framing in some films).

Also, 2001 was announced for 350 domestic IMAX theaters, I believe there are around 400 of them in total, so the vast majority of IMAX sites should play the film.

Yes, but, only 5 of them showing the IMAX 70mm film version. I think the rest will be just an IMAX DMR of the 2.39:1 for regular cinemas. The only trailer I've seen is this aspect.

wow, they'd do that --- I'd avoid that theater if they pulled that shit and altered the image just for the sake of filling the screen.

If I recall correctly, 2001 was one of the movies in Smithsonian's Sci-Fi Sundays program a while back.

Yeah, I wish I was closer to one .

There are rumors of a new shopping center being built in the area (closer) with an IMAX. It is just in talking stages, site picked out, but, no firm plans as of yet. It'd be great if this was a full AR IMAX laser 4K dual projector, but, not holding my breath....

The new Laser 4K IMAX can be done different ways, I guess, the latest is that current digital 2K IMAX's (which have 2 2K projectors), can upgrade to a single Laser 4K IMAX projector...what this means for the future of IMAX 3D (...since 3D in IMAX is one projector for each eye.), I supposed it could be HFR, so, running at 48fps, it could flash 24fps for each eye in full 4K, but, it won't be the same as the 2 projector systems, 2 projectors give more brightness and other benefits, {one of the main benefits to IMAX over regular cinema}). However, one Laser 4K projector could be an improvement over the 2K dual set-up, especially if they also upgrade to the 12-channel "atmos" like sound. (ICYDK: 2 projectors are the norm for digital IMAX, one for each eye at full resolution for 3D, or slight offset (slightly overlapped) for 2D, giving it a higher than 2K (or 4K) appearance. Some older IMAX's had/(have?) IMAX 3D 15/70 film which also used 2 projectors with polarized or shutter glasses, mostly for the IMAX 3D short films seen in aquariums and museums.)

I had a Facebook conversation with someone over the Smithsonian over this, this was not the 'new' 4K restoration but the prior DCP from Warners.

At Udvar? Nope, it did not open during the entire battle. Just the first part. I remembered this because 1, it was my 3rd time seeing it and second I gave a "What the heck?" comment when it switched to letterbox. The CG Body and real head effects were ...I don't know it felt uneven and weird...as it felt it was rushed to completion on a "that's good enough for now..." feeling.

I went to Udvar specifically to see it open up.
But to be honest, I think it was kinda of a waste shooting it in IMAX. Now if they got their shit together and done some good frame breaking (Ghostbusters 3d 2016), then yes totally worth it.

Did you go on the first weekend? Maybe that was a goof or it wasn't ready in time? I think they download daily, at my local IMAX, one time there was a problem with audio & video not being in sync, they said it was not a problem with the projector but the download, they'd have to download again (so they gave us passes for anything anytime) (this was a couple years ago), I think it was a Sunday, and they didn't have that problem Saturday.

So far it seems like Black Panther is the pick, (no one is telling me IW opened up is a big deal), of the the 3 I liked it best. (I did see all of them in regular 2D or 3D cinema).

I went during the 3rd weekend I believe...so it was mostly a smaller crowd.

Black Panther had a few select scenes that opened up but nothing spectacular.

Antman and the Wasp had at least 2 or 3 that opened up.

Mission Impossible: Fallout was a wasted potential

There was no way this could have been a download error...

I honestly don't remember the *blip* during the Airport tarmack battle scene at Airbus (Udvar Hazy) the whole scene to me was full 1.90 AR screen.
