Default Dead Dudes in the House (aka House on Tombstone Hill, 1989) - Vinegar Syndrome, 2018

From my Cinema Arcana FB page:

“Where trespassing is a matter of life or death!” Another acquisition from the Troma catalog, Vinegar Syndrome are restoring Jim Riffel’s DEAD DUDES IN THE HOUSE (aka The House on Tombstone Hill, 1989) for release later this year! The film follows a group of college kids who travel with their friend Mark to his recently-acquired fixer-upper – purchased for a steal due to a murderous past they’re blissfully unaware off. Turns out this domicile has a death curse; it’s haunted by an old woman with a penchant for machete mayhem, and her mutilated victims are all-too-eager to pop back up and help get the job done. A low-budget gorefest with a sense of fun, DEAD DUDES IN THE HOUSE hasn’t received much love over the years, probably due to its silly retitle (it was filmed as THE ROAD and initially released to theaters as THE DEAD COME HOME) and a nondescript VHS issue. Troma previously lumped a tape-era transfer in an out-of-print DVD multipack, but Vinegar Syndrome are stepping up with a brand new 2K restoration from the original negative, promising to blow away all previous versions. Extras are currently in production. Release date has yet to be finalized. Watch this space for updates on both!

The old Troma transfer was pretty horrid. Had no idea this one was even shot on film.

16mm, I believe. Should be quite the difference! My old VHS actually looked better than the Troma release.

YES. One of the best Troma-distributed flicks. Now we'll actually get to see shit, considering how dark every home video release has been.

Long time fave since first watched under the title The House on Tombstone Hill on VHS.
Troma trying to cash in on Home Alone with this film was an awful idea.
That said, the "Old Lady" is super creepy even by zero budget standards, and the movie has its gory and well made "Evil Dead" type of moments. Fun flick if you also enjoyed Nightmare Weekend.

I was not expecting this. I'd love to see more movies from the Toxie's Triple Terror sets get released on blu-ray

Epitaph (1987) and Play Dead (1983) certainly deliver the goods. And of course Beyond Evil (1980), wich is an epic drive-in cheesefest.

Epitaph is a favoriet of mine from the VHS days, that tape was everywhere in Australia back in the day. Every video store stocked the bloody thing.

THE HOUSE ON TOMBSTONE HILL
aka Dead Dudes in the House & The Dead Come Home

A group of friends have decided to repair and renovate an old house located in the middle of nowhere in the hope of turning it into their ‘cool’ crash pad. But shortly after arriving, a strange and seemingly senile old woman is found to be lurking around the premises. Uncertain of her intentions, the group of trendy homesteaders go about their business but soon find themselves up against a very unexpected geriatric evil, hell-bent on keeping them as permanent residents in ‘her’ house, dispatching them in a series of creatively gruesome ways. But to make matters even worse, shortly after meeting their demise, their mutilated corpses return from the dead, determined to help their elderly assassin and her fiendish daughter finish off the others…

Absurdly gory and filled with top-notch kills, courtesy of effects wizards Ed French and Bruce Spaulding Fuller, James Riffel’s cynical blend of slasher and zombie film (and late 80s late-night cable classic), THE HOUSE ON TOMBSTONE HILL (aka THE DEAD COME HOME and DEAD DUDES IN THE HOUSE), makes its Blu-ray debut from Vinegar Syndrome, newly restored from its original camera negative and looking better than you ever thought possible.

English Widescreen 1.85:1 DTS-HD Master Audio

• Region free Blu-ray/DVD combo
• Newly scanned & restored in 2k from its 16mm original camera negative
• “Three Dead Dudes” – featurette with actors: Mark Zobian, Victor Verhaeghe and Douglas Gibson
• Audio interview with director James Riffel, moderated by Chris Poggiali
• Extensive behind-the-scenes still gallery
• English SDH subtitles

I like the Tombstone Hill title better. 'Dead Dudes' makes it sound like an actual Troma film

I was coming into the thread about to comment on the name, then I saw the Cover with the knife and the Tombstone title, blown away! 100% buying! Oh and great fun movie too lol. All previous versions were dark as hell but I know Vinegar Syndrome will work theyre magic and movie pq will be immaculate.

i'll be *that guy.*

i'm hoping for reverse artwork with the original dead dudes title because i am very very tickled that all the goomba kids on that cover don't appear in the actual film in any way, and i don't want to give that up.

Is this a straight horror film or is it campy?

I think it would come with a reversible slip, not 100% sure as they haven't announced it, but I would bet a large sum on it
