What does SDR stand for and how come it doesnt display HDR-10 when your playing a non DV 4k movie? Also for the Audio, do I set it on Bitstream, LPCM, or Re-Encode?nI have Dolby Atmos Onkyo 5.1 system if gthat helps to answer the audio question. Any help is appreciated thanks.

Do you have the HDR settings set to auto? SDR=Standard Dynamic Range. So, no your player is not sending out an HDR signal to your display.

Standrd Dynamic Range. Does your TV display the Dolby Vision logo when you are playing Dolby Vision titles? Have you enabled the enhanced HDMI settings with your TV?

Bitstream sends the raw data to the device and it decodes it. PCM encodes it before sending it to the device. Re-encodes usually changes Dolby Audio into DTS (or vice versa).

I have the HDMI set to Auto. But the other options are SDR or DV. How come HDR-10 isnt a option and if I have it set to Auto will it display the non DV movies to HDR-10 or SDR? Just want to make sure when its a non DV movie, I still get the best quality that is HDR-10?

Yes when I have a DV movie in it does display Dolby Vision but when its not a DV movie it doesnt display anything. I just want to make sure I get the full HDR-10 output for non DV movies?

Also sounds like I should choose Bitstream if I want the original audio thats on the disk? I want the one that gives me the best sound and wht is supposed to be played thats labeled on the disk?

It depends on what decodes the audio better.

I'm going through your manual now.

Quote:
Home Setup > Video > HDMI video > Auto

Home Setup > Video > High Dynamic Range output > Dolby Vision
It should switch to HDR10 when it doesn't detect the DV signal.

See I was told if you set it to DV then it will try to play everything at DV and if the movie isnt a DV disk then it will look bad. So I set it to auto. Make sense?

Makes sense, but I'd try Dolby Vision and a HDR disc to see what's been outputted. It should be simple to find out.

Bear in mind the Video settings will have an effect.

For blu-ray Disk:
Auto: Will output in the disks native format (SDR, HDR10 or Dolby Vision),
SDR: Will force SDR output regardless,
Dolby Vision Will force Dolby Vision only for disk.

For Streaming (I not tested netflix with this but youtube and the network app is affected):
Auto will allow HDR video to play,
SDR will force it to be SDR,
Dolby Vision: will not work with them and HDR videos from the apps will output as SDR.

For audio I bitstream.

I second the above post. Change to “Auto” and leave it alone, it will play the Dynmaic Range the disc has.

The OP isn't getting HDR when their settings are Auto, we're trying to troubleshoot to see if the Dolby Vision setting has defaults to HDR when no DV signal is present.

Looking at it I wonder two things:

We know his TV shows the Dolby Vision Icon when playing Dolby content but does his TV do the same for HDR10 content as well or does it not display a bubble for HDR10?

Also Philips for some reason don't have HDR10 forced options and only will only play HDR10 on auto (I have the player) so is it when its outputting HDR10 but does not know if it is or is not because of the lack of this option in the menu?

When playing a film pushing the I button on the Philips remote will tell you what it is outputting to the TV.

If his TV has an info button will it display what it is showing in?

Thanks for all the help guys. Well I wasnt sure if the movies that are HDR-10 were actually playing in HDR-10 because there was never any logo or display like when you are watching a DV disk. So it might be out putting to HDR-10 but just doesnt tell you. When I get home tonight I will put in a HDR-10 disk and simply check the info button which I didnt think to do. I just assumed the logo would pop up like my old Samsung player. When it detected HDR it would appear on my tv but now it doesnt. Stay tuned and I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for the help its appreciated. I will also change my audio option from re-encode to Bitstream as my Onkyo is Dolby Atmos so the Ausio doesnt need to be re-encoded.

Most TVs have Dolby Vision or HDR picture presets, some like the Samsung don't you have to press the Home button to see a HDR icon. Hopefully if CZAR can check what's actually on the screen, with their TV's infor button or what picture presets kick in.

Yeah, im sure its playing the disks in HDR-10. I would try to use the info button for the TV and the player itself just to cover all your bases.

I have the same combo (65C6 and 7302 ... Sam's club version of 7502).

When playing plain jane HDR, I get a little icon that pops up on the top right that says "HDR" ... when a DV disc is used, then I get a DV icon.

I use AUTO and deep color enabled. I'm also sending the signal thru a Denon x4300H.
