I think we may be bestowing a little too much love onto San Diego with the last few posts, so, for the sake of LordoftheRings and others in B.C. and Alberta - http://www.digitaltvnews.net/?p=31362

I think I read there’s a free TV in there ^ somewhere.

This is good Penton; Hollywood used to film in Canada to save taxes.
Now they encourage them to film @ home, cool.

Canadians with dual citizenship are quite happy with their taxes now. And it's good for all of us because that money goes towards fixing our highways, bridges, schools, etc.

It's like rolling the economy to benefit everyone. Life's good.

Amazon boldly announces their 2018 flagship show Jack Ryan to be mastered and distributed in Dolby Vision, seemingly dropping the HDR10+ facade.

New Samsung soundbars feature Dolby Atmos and apparently Dolby Vision passthrough support, marking a pivotal moment in the Samsung vs Dolby war.

Is this the beginning of the end for HDR10+ before it even began? Is Samsung on the cusp of joining team DV? Is the charade over? Stay tuned!

That is huge. This is the biggest release Amazon has had for their streaming service IMO

What would you do with it even if you did get the update?

It's big news that they are still supporting Dolby Vision, but it does not look like the HDR10+ facade has been dropped.

Story updated with info relevant to this discussion! To save you a click, they have told me in writing that Jack Ryan will also be in HDR10+.
https://twitter.com/BigJohnnyArcher/...75127364476929

They are still adamant that their entire HDR catalog is HDR10+, despite the fact that no one has been able to prove it yet.

So I wouldn't count on Samsung coming to their senses and supporting Dolby Vision.

I don't think they'll announce it like it that, it's going to be slow. You'll probably see more content get DV grades, while maintaining that there is HDR10+ support. I wouldn't be surprised if HDR10+ sticks around.

I really want Technicolour HDR to be supported, but I worry it's a bit late in the game and it might sink without a trace.

It's best hope might be with broadcasters at this stage, it's better than HLG but still has the ability to contain a correctly graded SDR downconvert, unlike HDR10, 10+ and DV where it has to be fudged to a target luminace.

It's always the same single person - John Archer - gleefully spreading this. I would say that "adamant" is too strong a word when put up against the lack of evidence. It's an anonymous person at Amazon, so no name or job title.

Is that really the way to launch a HDR format in the modern era? Claim repeatedly, always without proof, that you are using it, and then you won't even state on the record with a name or job title when asked for some simple proof?

Prevent ONE SINGLE DEMO from being available for two whole years?

What a joke.

For it to "stick" around, it has to be here first. Please let's not yet allow them to get away with the claim that it's here? It's in danger of becoming an "established" fact, just because it keeps being repeated

No-one consumer has ever seen HDR10+ from Amazon. We're all still waiting to see that HDR10+ label appear either on a TV's own Info, or inside the Amazon app, or both. We need that simple thing to happen FIRST

I think you're right. Technicolour HDR is way, way too late now for a competitor to HLG to come along, even if it's better.

May I ask why do you say it's better than HLG? What real tangible benefits does it offer over HLG? Is "better SDR results" the only real one, if so who cares? I think that HLG's key strength of avoiding the need for major changes to broadcast equipment infrastructure is pretty much unbeatable and will be the driver.
