Interesting story:
https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2018/08/16/...in-stocks.html Reminds me of when the movie makers owned the theaters. What do you think? Would Uncle Sam get in the way? |

I was thinking about this the other day, I asked myself is there a huge difference between a movie studio owning a theatre that shows their content and a movie studio or parent company owning an ISP and streaming service that shows their content?
We have Apple stores and Disney stores. Would there be a huge difference between a Disney theatre? |

I’ve recently started going to my local Landmark theater a lot due to thier partnership with Moviepass. It’s currently owned by a company cofounded by Mark Cuban (Dallas Mavericks owner). It could definitely use some upgrades and modernization and Amazon has the money to do that. I just hope that it will continue to focus on indie films. I wonder if Amazon just wants the theater chain or also it’s sister companies: Magnolia Pictures, HD Net/HD Net Movies, AXS TV, etc.

I've never even heard of Landmark Theatres to be honest.
Marcus Theatres bought out all Wehrenberg Theaters (established in 1906!) a couple years back, which was the multiplex cinema we had here. Since then they've completely renovated the place from top to bottom. New screens, Atmos setups, heated recliner chairs, a full restaurant and bar, etc. And of course, all the prices on everything went up also. The Marcus Theatres theme though... well it stinks. It's basically just an unmemorable 3 notes or something, compared to the old theme song intro: We used to also have a Kerasotes theater here until AMC bought them out, and promptly closed the theater less than a year later. It seems that smaller movie theater chains are getting bought out and disappearing fast. |

![]() If Amazon did buy Landmark, I'd expect some kind of special deal for Prime members, like maybe get in for free on Tuesdays, and free popcorn with every ticket bought. ![]() |
