I'm normally open to dubs, but this is one title that I honestly don't care if it receives one. The Japanese track is far too sentimental to me, especially considering Hiromi Tsuru's fairly recent passing.

It would be nice if they did, as it would give more exposure to the series (though I'd never watch it dubbed, regardless of quality).
Though, I would not pay extra for it to be dubbed. Because I see no value in listening to third rate voice actors instead of a cast of incredible seiyuu that already exists. |

There was a thread on Discotek doing a poll on whether people would pay more for new dubs being done for old shows, usually because they never had one done in the first place. What was the result of that? Did they ever respond to how it would effect the direction of their company? Are they going to try that strategy out with a title like this one?

Nope. I don't think they said anything about the poll.
I'd rather they not dub these old titles, because A.) Not many modern anime fans will watch old shows, regardless of quality B.) The people who are dub only generally won't watch older series C.) Price will increase and people would complain ' D.) (this is my favourite reason) Taking a risk and dubbing another show is a stupid idea, as they could do better things with said money, such as licensing other wanted titles. |

Here are screenshots from the AnimEigo release that I took 15 years ago to illustrate the telecine ghosting.
(These are not deinterlacing artifacts, each screenshot is a single DVD field.) [Show spoiler]

I should note that it isn't as bad as it looks. At least when viewed on an interlacing CRT it's hardly an issue. The ghost images only happen on the 60-fps fields that coincide with an animation frame transition. So e.g. for 8-fps animation, only every 7th or 8th video field would have ghosting. It might make things more difficult for "smart" deinterlacers, though.
I wonder whether the HD version is ultimately based on the same video masters, or whether a new telecine was made at some point. Or maybe some kind of smart reverse telecine which omits the problematic fields. Last edited by klasma; 08-18-2018 at 12:34 AM. |

"Nope, no ghosting. Only very old analog Hi-Vision masters have ghosting. These were made last year. Gorgeous. Specifically, that kind of ghosting only happened with analog telecines where the film was out of sync with the video fields. Pretty common in the 80s and 90s. Stops restoration dead. But basically never happens in the digital era." |
