While there remains such a strong appetite for 4K content, it would be foolish of any provider not to offer it. Where there is demand, there is an opportunity to make a profit. Profit is very motivational.
Netflix productions actually require the cameras to be 4K capable. With most of their approved cameras being 8k capable

https://partnerhelp.netflixstudios.c...-Image-Capture

"Camera must have a true 4K UHD sensor (equal to or greater than 3840 photosites wide)."

But let steedeel tell it, SD and 720 are coming back.

Netflix sure seems committed to 4K and is even prepping for the future with the usage of 8K capable cameras. These are not the actions of a company looking to go backwards.

What company looks backwards?

None.

These schizophrenic suggestions from SD would be like sony or nintendo saying they're going to bring back 1995/1996 style graphics for their videogames.

It just makes no sense.

All the Providers just give you the minimums, and everyone knows that Real Time is way different. The Average Person thinks that DVD Quality is good enough, so Streaming HD over Wireless works for them, and I guess it works for you guys too. I just know my Streaming has no Degradation, and I'm sure it's because I am Hard Wired!
Looking at the chart, quite a few are not getting the bandwidth.

No I said HDR 1080p, with lower for those that can’t access it.

720 HDR. WTF. lol
Digital HD is backwards. It’s a format that looks worse than a format that’s been out for many years (Blu-ray)

Also, many many people will already have watched 720p HDR. I believe when the picture degrades, it keeps the HDR. So people with HDR capability will probably watch it without even realising.

The more data caps in place and NN problems, the more Netflix will look to solutions like this.

That is the minimum required for each respective service, if you have a 1Gb connection does not mean the video data rate will be larger.

Lets use Netflix as our reference because they provide the most info of the top streamers and have the largest minimums recommended for their service. Click here and you will see: Best video quality, up to 3GB per hour for HD, 7GB per hour for Ultra HD. That is the file size per hour, in streaming terms: for an HD of 3GB = 6.67Mbps, for an Ultra HD of 7GB = 15.56Mbps.

In other post I have stated that a few HD streams will be in the 6Mbps range, many are 3Mbps or less. Ultra HD normally run 16Mbps.

I hope that for once and for all this ends the back and forth about streaming data rates. Many references have been posted if folks want to do more reading. If anyone is interested I can provide you the equation for the file size to Mbps.

That's youre opinion and yet the quality of streaming continues to improve year after year.

Sure pal. You only hear HDR mentioned with 4K now, but they're gonna skip past your newfangled 1080 hdr and go backwards to 720. That will be a great selling point!

What's next , 480p dolby vision?

Damn, I swear some of you just participate in this thread just to piss each other off anymore. Because no one is bringing anything new to the table to sway the other side. Go watch a movie on the format of your choosing. Be it Physical or Digital.

Yeah, 480pwill maintain HDR if your stream degrades that far, for sure.

You don’t just hear 4K. 1080p HDR has been a hot topic for at least a year. It’s very much a huge advantage for streaming services as it offers visual benefits but without the huge bitrate requirements of 4K HDR. Sony and several others have released 1080p sets I believe. They are not top of the range however.

We are. HDR is a new topic of conversation on here, for example.

Threads with "Vs." in the title can be somewhat adversarial, but I do not sense that anyone in this thread is currently "pissed off" with anyone else.

I visited a thread here that is essentially pitting Windows 10 against Windows 7 and people there are somewhat passionate about their opinions, too, but I would not describe them as hostile- at least from what little of it I have read. People there seem to be sticking with their preferred OS as the debate carries on- not seeing many converts there, either.

People seldom change their minds, not only in this thread, but in most of the threads I have visited. As the topic here isn't anything new, little of the pro/con debate is new.

I never came to this thread with any expectation or goal of changing anyone's mind. I am waging no crusade; I simply have a strong interest in the subject. I am easily able to enjoy movies in the manner of my choosing, as can all of us, so there is no urgency to convert anyone from one to the other. I enjoy the perspective that people with different opinions bring to the the subject. I have actually modified my viewing habits ever so slightly to include a bit more streaming into my video diet.

I am not particularly fond of doomsday predictions, exaggerations, extrapolated anecdotes, and the outright technical falsehoods that get repeated perpetually, but this is an internet forum and you have to take the bad with the good.

I wholeheartedly agree with your closing statement. I tend to watch most of my movies at night, though, so it will be a few more hours before I shut up.

Watched one of your recent additions last night, “A Quite Place” with Atmos sound. Almost had to change my drawers in the first part when there were very loud sounds from the overheads, turned out to be Racoons .

Cracking film, almost as good as Hereditary.

If you really want to participate in a heated debate where minds rarely change and little new is discussed, wade into some of the Star Wars threads, especially those that compare the prequel trilogy with the original trilogy or the threads that compare the theatrical versions versus the special editions of the original trilogy. Threads about the latest installments stir strong emotions and aggressive arguing, too.

People sometimes get down right mean over there. Star Wars debates make some people mighty excitable.

The hate that TLJ gets is a joke. It’s by far the bravest of all the Star Wars films.

I do not want to bring the Star Wars debates into this thread; there are plenty of battlegrounds for that in existence already.

I was just illustrating the differences between the comparatively tame debate we have here as opposed to the frequent brawling over in those threads.

It was an attempt at humour.
