I'm in love with Mädchen Amik and Mick Garris is the man. While Sleepwalkers isn't a masterpiece, I enjoy it quite a bit, and seeing those images make me very excited for this release.

Plus, I hope Mick Garris is allowed to give everything he has into these releases. He's basically a horror historian and has SO MUCH to offer when it comes to his own work. I just hope the studios don't try to go through everything with a fine tooth comb and go "no, can't include that." Please, Scream!, make sure these get what the director wants!

I'm sure Garris has a TON of stuff to include, but I'm also sure the studio will say, all right, enough is enough. Still, you're very correct in labeling Garris as a horror historian. There aren't many people alive today with the genre knowledge he has. The man has literally been everywhere, worked with everyone, and played a part in creating several classic horror properties. We're lucky SF managed to get a couple of his films. Hopefully they can get a few more.

Since SF seems to love John Carpenter (don't we all?) has there been any rumblings about an 'Escape from L.A.' Collector's Edition?

Haven't seen a lot of his films but I've listened to one or two of his podcast episodes and seen some videos where he's interviewed others, and the guy's knowledge (and interview skills) is impressive. The new Fangoria posted an old video recently where he was interviewing a really young Jamie Lee Curtis at some unknown event. It wasn't dated but clearly had to have been early-80s, and I was like "Jeez, he's been doing this kind of stuff forever it seems."

They're there, but way down when you search because they're listed as "currently unavailable". Don't have pricing yet. I had to dig around to find them as well.

So since Scream released all of them, I feel this is the appropriate place to pose this question:

How would y'all rank the "holy trinity" of summer camp slashers?

I'd go:

3. Sleepaway Camp

2. The Burning

1. Friday the 13th

2 and 1 are tough; The Burning is the more "polished" film, has the better villain, kills, characters and the obligatory campfire story. But my opinion of Friday the 13th really increased the last time I watched it. Its tight pacing, thick atmosphere and mounting tension is all handled impressively enough to earn it the nod.

I dig Sleepaway Camp but the factors that set it apart, its oddness and absurdness, are also what make it a distant third in this race, at least for me.

Where do you all stand?

For me it would be:

Friday the 13th
Sleepaway Camp
The Burning

Aside from the raft scene & a few others I only found The Burning to be just ok. The other 2 I really enjoy though.

I agree. The Burning is a film that I want to like more than I do, and one that I feel like I should enjoy more, but overall it didn't really do a whole lot for me. I've viewed it a few times and while it's always a pleasant visit, it's never a film I really feel strongly about.

I also much prefer the later Friday sequels so I'd probably go with...

Sleepaway Camp
Friday the 13th
The Burning

I only saw The Burning once over several years ago, so don't remember much. Seem to recall it was okay with some nice gore. Might have to revisit it. Sleepaway Camp is a snoozefest that I feel is only remembered because of its twist ending, and one that explains nothing and just serves as mere shock value. (I find Sleepaway Camp II much more enjoyable and superior in every way possible.) Friday the 13th is a winner, though.
