I ordered this on Monday from Deep Discount with the 15% off code and received the shipping notice yesterday (which was the release date) so the disc exists.

You'll have to let us know when you receive it.

I, on the other hand, just got an email from Amazon saying that they won't be able to fulfill my order due to lack of stock and are going to cancel it. I went through the same thing for Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (also Universal) before finally receiving it a month or 2 later. I'm sure it'll eventually turn up, but these release fiascos are getting annoying pretty quickly.

That's physical media catalog titles for you. They don't sell, so there's not much incentive for studios. Digital downloads, however, wouldn't have that problem, so get ready for it.

Damn after giving them approval that I still wanted these items, Amazon cancelled both my orders for The Lonely Guy and Zoot Suit due to lack of availability

I will, but I'm in Canada so it might not be until the end of next week or the beginning of the following week that I'll actually have it in my hands.

Ugh. So this sounds like this is going to be one of those blu ray titles that is going to be difficult to get a copy of.

Amazon is back to taking orders for it and Best Buy how has a listing (although it is sold out there). Perhaps they just didn't order enough for the demand.

This, have seen this happen so many times, demand higher than available product to ship.

Its happened so often in recent years, its hard to believe that its not becoming something of a trend.

PUTV is one few early Christian Slater movies that I missed. When I read the plot, I'm glad I did.

As for this movie, eh... Probably skippable.Only a few Steve Martin movies are worthwhile.

The Lonely Guy is recommended if you’re a fan of early period Steve Martin films, though a little less zany, or of Charles Grodin and his usual schtick. If that’s not your cup of tea, you could probably skip it.

Well, I just find him to be kind of spotty... I enjoy guys like Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, Hanks, Michael J. Fox, Pryor and Wilder more for 80's comedy. But I do like The Jerk, Plains/Trains/Automobiles and The Three Amigo's. But he is more like Chevy Chase to me. Just movies here and there. Lukewarm.

Anyone with a 40+ year career is going to be a bit spotty. He absolutely took paycheck roles that aren't very good, but his stuff in the 80: is super solid (if you care for him at all). Honestly, I LOVE the Lonely Guy.

Clearly the movie is apparently not for everyone, however, I find it to be one of Martin's funniest films, and Charles Grodin is perfect in the film.

I must have lucked out--Amazon sent an e-mail saying they cancelled my order, but then they shipped it out anyway. Very weird.

Received it today in a crummy cardboard envelope that looked like it was used as a football for the delivery guys. Case was bent--swapped it out for a two-disc case so I could squeeze the DVD in there anyway.

After blowing my evening watching Deadpool 2, I decided to throw in The Lonely Guy to make it a jolly good double feature. Picture looks decent--fine details are pleasing most of the time, don't notice any DNR or EE. Some shots seem a bit soft, but that might be source issues. Colors look pretty natural, contrast seems a bit high but it's not too gaudy imo. For a movie of this vintage, sound quality is good--everything sounds clear and crisp.

As for the movie itself, it's just my kind of humor. The slapstick gags are good, but nowhere near as overbearing as Martin's other movies. It's the dialogue and narration that really amuses me the most and I think it works to the movie's favor. As a lonely guy myself, the movie kinda speaks to me.

English DTS-HD 2.0 Mono. I'm assuming that's original--I'm not a big enough audiophile to know what the DTS-HD part of it means.
