Don't know if it's just me but why does picture in DV mode look so much more noisy?
I rewatched Power Rangers and some scenes like chapter 2 have so much more noise in the background. Curious if it's just the LG display messing it up or the DV firmware doing something wrong.

My impressions:
  • Dolby vision disc plays DV with setting ON (Sony Low Latency)
  • DV disc plays HDR10 with toggle OFF
  • Netflix is forced DV with toggle ON
  • Amazon app works OK with UHD and HDR, just laggy in response
  • Amazon app output DD+ and 60hz, and HDR Opt works on it too

I'm assuming that if you do not have a dv display, the 820 really won't care if you set dv to on or off as it will only be playing hdr10 anyway. So for those of us with non dv projectors there should be no change in how the optimizer works correct?

It certainly does. Just watched Gladiator in dolby vision on my A1E. Also didn't have grey bars at the bits where the sony x700 had them (end credits and the "Am I not merciful?" scene).

Damn, 60hz is an abomination. I can't understand why anyone on the forum can put up with ANY 24p material being forced to 60p.

This will include the HDR to SDR conversion and how it performs with a projector.

I can confirm full 2020 support with SDR output and no need for a linker/vertex/fury to enable this mode.
Hello Kris,

thanks for the Info. So is it possible to use the Panasonic 424 (same as the 824 but without DV and analogue outputs and frontdisplay) without using the HD Fury Linker with my Epson LS10000? The PJ is calibrated for REC2020 but isn't capable of doing HDR (only SDR 2020).

Hello Robert,

is it possible to use the HDR Optimizer (like i said a post before my Epson LS10000 doesn't support HDR 2020 but SDR 2020) with the 424 also? I was told by Panasonic the only difference between the 824 and the 424 is DV Support and the analogue outputs.

Correct. No linker is needed.

thanks kris for the quick reply: So i only set the 424 to SDR2020 and choose the REC2020 calibration setting on my PJ?

Kris only if the projector does support the SDR/BT2020 EIDID which the LS10000 does not have, hence the need for the HDfury.

On the Oppo 203 ALL video controls are locked out when playing a DV disc to a non DV projector. I was under the impression the 820 would work the same way as in NO Optimizer with DV disc. Hopefully, someone can test this combo and let us know for sure.

Just to add to this, with DV on, HDR10 discs play as HDR10 and SDR blu-ray play as SDR, so On is basically an Auto switch and doesn't force DV.

Happy with this player's implementation of DV based on flicking through some problem scenes in Gladiator but going to keep my Sony x700 as well because I like the results of forcing my HDR10 discs through the Dolby Vision tone mapping.

So again, overlapping tone maps will more than likely yield unpleasant results.
Kris are the 1500, 1000, 800, 500 values you mention, targets for the 4 hdr button presets?

Wrong, the new player does not look for the EDID requirement like the older one, it can be forced into this mode.

You would want to projector to be in the 2020 color space and with a gamma of 2.4.
