A disc review site on Twitter just posted the new promo trailer for the 4k of this and he's pretty convinced that if the trailer is an indication of the film, it was be a complete DNR job similar to T2. There is zero grain in the trailer and it's Uber smooth. (I know the trailer is a repost but for those who missed it or skipped over it).

Seriously? YouTube videos being used as an indication of final product

The trailer for Terminator 2 3d/4k also showed the heavy DNR, so it can be used sometimes as a preview of how it was handled.(perhaps not always, but sometimes)

It actually can in quite a few cases.
It's not 480p city anymore

Thing with that is Lionsgate simply cut together a trailer from the master StudioCanal gave them, seeing as Lionsgate had nothing to do with the creation of the waxy hackjob thay SC gave them to release.

The smoothness of this trailer could easily be from YouTube compression. It seems far more likely to me that the 4K scan used for the 35th AE was simply reused, untouched in terms of PQ, and just given an HDR grade on the UHD.

Horror buffs are a rabid bunch. If Lionsgate put out a DNR'd transfer we can expect mayhem. Mayhem, I tells ya!

Hmm. Can't see the trailer because of location restrictions but we've had the trailers for Grease and T2 look all smooth in the YT vids and look what happened there...

Still, it's not like there aren't a hundred and one different versions already out that people can keep watching if the UHD turns out to be a bust. My Spanish official bootleg BD will do me just fine. [edit] And the same goes for Evil Dead, the AB Blu-ray is superb.

Think American Psycho's and Van Wilder's trailers were from the old blu-rays, probably just used some footage they had on-hand, but it's good to always remain vigilant.

I remember seeing that exact quote regarding the T2 UHD, so I wouldn't blame anyone for panicking. Unfortunately I can't view said trailer since Lionsgate is racist against Australians.

At any rate, this and The Evil Dead are going to prove Lionsgate's true worth in regards to 4K catalogue titles.

Yeah I don’t think they put too much effort into the trailer folks. I can’t see LG going back to scrub this. Anything is possible but it’s likely the 35th anniversary with the benefits of extra resolution and Dolby Vision.

I do find it odd that the states are getting it weeks earlier than Canada

Im still waiting for Lionsgate to release Basic Instinct on 4K - that's a title that would look amazing in UHD.

The trailer states it has Dolby Atmos or DTS: X... it mentions immersive audio.

Absolutely. That movie was filmed in such a way that the current transfer does zero justice.

I'll pass judgement when the disc is spinning in my player. IF I notice the tell tale smoothness and lack of grain while watching the disc, I'll yank that f*#$er out so fast, my player will forget it was ever in there

Yeah, if they smoothed it over I have zero problem living with the 35th ann BD.

The YouTube video quality is crap so I can't really tell what manipilation is happening. Looks like the video uses the same master as the 35th anniversary disc though.

Would've been nice if they'd kept this extra: "Halloween: A Cut Above The Rest" documentary (87:33).
I think Rosenthal's sequel was a perfect example of how to make a great followup (by literally continuing a scene from the end of the previous entry) save for the inconsistencies with Curtis' hair and such; as it stands, the original, part two and part four are the best ebb and flow in terms of the franchise feel.

To be honest, the only entry in this franchise I really, really like is Season of the Witch.

Looking forward to the original in 4K. I like Halloween II & III. After that I'm out although I wouldn't mind revisiting H2O and I'm looking forward to the latest this October just because it basically erases all the sequels and it has Nick Castle.

Yes, "The Shape" is being played by Nick Castle in the sequel/reboot this October (who played him in the original; he was actually a good friend of Carpenter's and he got the role for Myers just by impressing Carpenter with the way he lumbered around pre-production sets -- it's also the name they based Tom Atkins' character on in The Fog).

As for the actor who played Michael in 4, I agree that his physical stature looks odd -- don't know what's going on with those "bulging shoulders" and the odd walk and mask, but you gotta kind of go with it and suspend some disbelief in that he survived the hospital explosion at the end of II and then killed yet another mechanic to get his jumpsuit...

What's weirder than all this is that he found a mask in the store almost identical to what he put on in the first one a decade earlier -- and a mechanic's outfit that looked similar, too!

At any rate, it's still my favorite sequel after II (and I LOVE Season of the Witch, as a standalone entry).
