Why do they keep releasing this film with that same paltry selection of bonus content? It deserves far better. You can get the best selection by getting the 10-disc boxset, the original DVD for the excellent Cut Above the Rest doc (or just the 15 disc set if you can) and the 25 Years of Terror DVD set.

As for the actor who played Michael in 4, I agree that his physical stature looks odd -- don't know what's going on with those "bulging shoulders" and the odd walk and mask, but you gotta kind of go with it and suspend some disbelief in that he survived the hospital explosion at the end of II and then killed yet another mechanic to get his jumpsuit...

What's weirder than all this is that he found a mask in the store almost identical to what he put on in the first one a decade earlier -- and a mechanic's outfit that looked similar, too!

At any rate, it's still my favorite sequel after II (and I LOVE Season of the Witch, as a standalone entry).
I said this in my earlier post, but it's been confirmed that the actor wore hockey pads underneath the jumpsuit to make him look more imposing. Instead, it just made him look more silly.

Just a guess but I think a lot of people will have those already? There's really no point going to town and rounding up everything, and even a new documentary wouldn't be life-changing because this film has already been done to death in that regard (haha).

I'm not an insane fan of this series (I may have seen one or two of the sequels but it begins and ends with the original for me) but even I've still got the anchor bay DVD, the 25th anni DVD, the 25 years of terror DVD and the Spanish bootleg Blu, which itself rounds up a few bits and pieces from various places (Halloween Unmasked from the first DVD, A Cut Above the Rest from 2003) and even puts the 2010 'Inside Story' documentary on there.

Indeed, it did make him look ridiculous; didn't see your earlier post because this thread is moving so fast.

And the color grading in that trailer is exactly the same as the 35th anniversary disc, so like I've said several times, it's the exact same master and it WAS scanned at 4K.

I don't have a problem with him surviving the explosion. I see miraculous tales of survival all the time in the news. People survive some incredible accidents that by all rights should have killed them. It happens.

As far as finding another identical mask, well, it isn't identical, right? I have no problem believing that the same company or maybe a different company re-released a popular mask, with some differences. Since it was the famous mask Myers used, I wouldn't put it past a shady company to re-release a mask an actual killer used, just to cash in on it. Companies do scummy things all the time. And one mechanic outfit is about the same as any other mechanic outfit. He killed a mechanic and took the outfit. Works for me.

That's not what I really meant when I stated to the other member that "you gotta go with some suspension of disbelief"...what I was referring to was that, if we're going to be up in arms about the whole "ridiculous shoulder pad look" on the actor in 4, it could kinda be explained away with "well, he DID survive an explosion that pretty much destroyed a hospital wing, so he's KINDA gonna look...well...messed up, to say the least..."

Just as a kind of explanation for his "odd" look in 4.

Usually on Youtube you can still see the grain in 1080p trailers, but this really does look like it got slapped some DNR. Colors look like the 35th anniversary BD so I'm hoping it's just someone messed up with the trailer and that the film is intact, but it's not reassuring.

If the UHD disc uses the 35th anniversary transfer, I will be very happy as I think that one looks excellent. But I'll still wait for some reviews before I buy, just to make sure nothing unholy has happened to the film's transfer, because Terminator 2 has caused me to not buy anymore UHD discs before having a look at what I'm getting first.

Any word on if the included regular Blu-ray is the 35th Anniversary transfer or a new remastered?

That’s true, but it would be nice to have it all in one definitive edition, and plus there has to be something new they can include. There’s the legendary outtake footage that Synapse has in their possession that could’ve finally been included in some way. Maybe more archival interviews, commercials for TV airings, the screenplay through BD-rom, interviews with more filmmakers inspired by the movie, any unreleased shorts from John Carpenter. Halloween needs an edition much like Criterion’s excellent release for Night of the Living Dead. Actually Criterion’s Halloween LaserDisc had a great commentary too with Carpenter, Debra Hill, and Jamie Lee Curtis (recorded separately), and it’s on Anchor Bay’s original 2007 Blu-ray. I would absolutely quadruple-dip on a Criterion Blu-ray edition of Halloween.

I don't agree with just buying a film in a "UHD package" that uses a previous lower-resolution master, but with that being said, what happened with the Terminator 2 UHD?

Too much DNR applied. Everything looked too clean and "fake". Color timing was also another issue for others, but that part wasn't an issue for me.

I do too, believe it or not -- Anchor Bay's THX DVD, to be exact, which came out circa '99...

To me, this always had the correct color timing elements (crucial for certain aspects of this motion picture).

Apologies if it's already been established but a UK release has now been announced for this.
