Default Streets of Rage 4 (Dotemu, Lizardcube, Guard Crush Games)

Quote:
Lizardcube, Guard Crush Games and Dotemu are thrilled to present Streets of Rage 4.

Featuring hand-drawn visuals from the team behind 2017’s gorgeous Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake, Streets of Rage 4 builds upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay with new mechanics, a fresh story and a gauntlet of dangerous stages with a serious crime problem.

Awesome! Thanks for posting the news!
Lifelong Streets of Rage fan, so this is great to see finally happening officially from Sega.

I like the art style, though the original art style is still great too.
The music track sounds good. Hopefully the composer will be able to compete with Yuzo Koshiro's original tunes from the games.

The game play looks familiar, so that's a relief, along with the characters.
A new villain female boss it seems.

Hopefully 2018 this releases.

I would rather have a remaster or sequel to Final Fight, but it does look interesting.

Final Fight (arcade version) is still the best side scrolling beat em up ever. Double Dragon might have started it, but Final Fight is GOAT.

Anyway I'm not sure about the art style either but I'm willing to give this a chance.

Cool, though I still like the music from Streets of Rage 1 the best. Especially stage 1. I can't believe this was how cool the music sounded on the Genesis from 1989. This game 1990 I believe. SOR2 1992. SOR3, 1993.

Gameplay from the original was a bit basic. The sequel was much more refined. Anyone who hasn't played it and is a fan of fighting games, it's still an awesome beat 'em up and Final Fight fans will enjoy it.

The title story music was cool even. Great bass and snares to the melody from Yuzo Koshiro.

So with SOR4, they show the title screen with only 2 characters. Hopefully this is early development, as I want to see at least one more character. The style is much more cartoony, but still looks good, though I would prefer less cell shading. Even so, the opening animation is very anime style, which does flow well in terms of action.

Can't wait to play this game. Finally.

The home made remakes were really cool to watch.

EDIT: http://www.lizardcube.com/presskit/StreetsofRage4/
Above is the link to the official press kit with details about the game, the plan and pictures. So it seems Axel and Blaze are the only two playable characters so far. Hmmm. That's strange. SOR always had 3. Not sure why they didn't have time to add one more.

Screen shots from Streets of Rage 4.
Blaze still looks cool in her red dress, though Axel looks a bit heavier compared to his youth.

I like everything about Streets of Rage ,

Music, gameplay. It had it's own class.

I was ok with the art style from just seeing pics, but when I watched the trailer I really hated the cartoony effects with every attack.

Blaze looks OK but I have no idea why they gave Axel a 40 year old fat dad bod. No Adam is also kind of odd, unless he's been captured or something.

I can't believe i'm saying this but i'll probably wait to see what the verdict on this is before buying.

I'm a huge fan of brawler games and 'Streets of Rage 2' was one of the ones I play the most ('Golden Axe' is up there, too). Yet, nothing here really grabs me. Mostly because this feels like an ad for 'Streets of Rage: The Animated Series' than a game. Maybe when I see more of the game itself in action I'll get more excited. Right now, I'm indifferent. At least it doesn't look as sluggish and clunky as 'Double Dragon Neon'.

I can look past the art style if the gameplay is solid and the music is great. I'm really hoping they don't get somebody to try and remix the original tracks. I'm assuming Koshiro isn't involved?

Mega Drive and Genesis. Both cool names for a console.

Axel, facing forward, looks wider than I would expect. I'm thinking that's the artist's style affecting things, more than Axel letting himself go and being overweight. That aside, as long as he kicks ass, I'll accept it.

But yeah, what happened to the 3rd player? The title screen clearly shows only 2 heroes from the original game. It's still early, and I'll bet they'll add DLC characters later on. The series is also about unlocking secret characters like Shiva, the Kangaroo, etc.

It definitely has an anime, cel shaded style to it, a departure from the pixel but illustrated style of the originals, which I do prefer visually. That said, the artist here captures the style of the enemies clothing and poses and hopefully the gameplay is as responsive and as fun as the originals games. If the music can match or get close to Yuzo Koshiro's classic tunes, then I'll be happy. With the exception of SOR3, where the experimental repetitive tones and beeps were abandoning the genius melodies of the prior 2 games in most tracks for 3. I think track 21 or 20, that was amazing and it wasn't even in the game itself, only in the audio test screen.

When will Streets of Rage 4 be available? Maybe early 2019.

My favorite Sega/16 bit series of all time but that art design is all wrong. At least we got that remake

These nostalgia rebrands just hardly ever work, beat em ups will never be great like they were in the land of 3d gaming.

Where is skate, adam, roo, max, ANYONE?! Axel is the most boring SOR character I never played as.

There’s absolutely no way this is staying at 2 characters.

Axel and Blaze are good fighters, but Max the wrestler was nearly unstoppable with his slide kick, atomic drop throws and elbow lock smash. Toughest SOR character ever.

Shiva, once unlocked in SOR3, was cool, but has very limited moves, mostly just a kick and a open hand punch.

Adam was a tough fighter, though the slowest of the gang. I always wanted to see him appear in the sequels, though his younger brother Skate took over. Skate was a cleverly designed character, fast and some cool flip kick moves and attacks, though not very strong.

The Robot guy was the strangest character, and reminds me of the game Alien Storm from Sega, with his energy orbs.

The title art shows two characters, and mysteriously they're the only two mentioned on the official website, but since this is all early news, I hope there are more characters yet to be revealed. Mr. X is gone for now, replaced with the woman with the snake.

I have all 3 Streets of Rage games on Xbox 360, and they are very nostalgic. They are great games to play. I honestly never thought we would see a Streets of Rage 4. That trailer is very cool, it looks just like the first 3 games, but with better graphics.

I love the music in Streets of Rage. Brings back memories of the 80's and 90's. I really can't wait to play Streets of Rage 4. It should be awesome.

Cool. In the time leading up to Streets of Rage 4, a lot of fans made their own home made versions of the Streets of Rage games for PC, remixing and creating new graphics and music. Then there were a couple new graphics versions created that looked promising, but never fully realized or acquired by Sega.

A version of the Streets of Rage Remake (based on SOR2)

A Fan made Streets of Rage 4 (not the new SOR4 from Sega)

There were even some Streets of Rage fan films that depicted the three heroes and even had health bar meters during the movie, along with the original sound effects. Funny stuff.
