I own the individual Legacy Collection box sets.

I really ought to spring for a stand-alone Blu-ray of the 1943 Phantom of the Opera now so that I can sell off the old UK Essential Monsters set.

Or just sell it off, that one has too much Opera and too little Phantom.

I won't part with mine. They have language tracks and subtitles not included in the American versions.

Ha!

I totally get where you’re coming from, but the 1943 movie is a wonderful eye candy film on its own terms, and it is part of the Universal Monsters canon.

Since their website lately will only list shipping until sometime the day of release(and sometimes, even that won't update correctly til later in the day, if not the next).

Though, now some of you have convinced me to wait for the inevitable price drop.

With the cost per movies only being around $5 each (without counting duplicates), how do you know Universals pricing strategy had included the duplicates in the overall price? If each movie were sold individually they would be priced higher, and even in two packs they were priced higher. Why not consider the possibility Universal just included them as extras for free?
I just don't buy that a big company like Universal couldn't afford to repackage and do it right without passing the cost to the consumer. I wish in the first place they had done the releases like the 2004 dvds, no duplicates in those, just add the costello movies in. People who like the duplicates fine, it's not really a big deal I just would have done it differently.

You may not buy it, but you don't actually spend the money on C&A and authoring... For Universal, they would have to re-author some disc to remove duplicates... It far cheaper to use the excess replicated Blu-rays than spend money on making new ones.

That is fair, I still think their business practices are cheap & lazy.

1) There's no maybe about it.
2) You aren't paying for the same movie multiple times. If they removed the duplicates, you'd still be paying the same price.

So basically you want them to lose money so you can get what you want., which is something that doesn't matter in the first place. Maybe this clues you in as to why physical media is failing??

Ha, guys it is not a big deal, I don't care. I was just stating I think they could have done a better job without going in the red.

It's certainly reasonable to be unhappy with Universal for their approach to this set, but unfortunately they decided to do nothing more than repackage these movies as they were for the BD collection. I don't like the duplication of movies either, but it is, what it is.

3 freaking duplicate discs.

Wolf Man Legacy has an extra Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man/House of Frankenstein/House of Dracula disc and an Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein disc.

Dracula Legacy has an extra Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein disc.

You paid a dollar more because it was more convenient for them to configure it like that. Who cares?

There are a few serious problems that I struggle with during my everyday life as I grow older and enter my late 40s. I stay optimistic, I do the best that I can, I keep my head up, and I'm doing quite well, but this does not change the fact that I have my share of problems.

Owning duplicate high definition presentations of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein is not one of those problems.

As well as the two House films.

Speaking for myself, the duplication really doesn’t bother. Knowing Universal did make an effort to have each Monster set complete is actually gratifying if you ask me. I get why people complain about it and sure there was probably ways it could have been handled better but it is what it is.

Atleast this release is plastic blu-ray cases as well. Could you imagine the complaining if they decided to release this without the duplicate discs and in a cardboard box like Bond 50 or the Alien Quadrilogy? That would go on for least 2+ years...

Not to mention there were people who complained about the packaging for 2012 Monsters Essentials Collection.
