For a 12 season show like this, I really don't understand why they don't automatically release Seasons 1-6 in one set (as Vol.1) and the rest (including the post-series movies) as Vol.2?

It's the lifelong fans that are going to buy this, so why not just cater to them in the first place? Hoping that enough people buy season 1 at £40 to justify releasing any more is ridiculous.

The problem with these is the rrp is too high on a single season release at £40. I think the best you may seen on day 1 is £25 to £30 once HMV list the title.

You need to compare this to the Fabulous boxsets where day 1 you are only paying £20 a season so a half full length Murder She Wrote with 6 seasons would be around £120 day 1, so around half what they want when you multiply up single seasons.

As noted previously releasing as single seasons means a very high risk we will never see all seasons released as most people will wait for complete boxsets.

Yep, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

People will wait for either:

1 A complete box set
2 To see that the range isn't cancelled after a few volumes
3 A sale to pick them up cheaper

All of which leads to low initial sales and likely cancellation of the range.

It is quite baffling. You get to the point after 4 or 5 seasons in where the distributor says, "these aren't selling ... but we've got another seven-eight seasons to go, lets dump this line and release a complete set ..." and the poor buggers who've paid £200 on the first five seasons have to re-buy them again.

I think Fabulous would have been better served releasing these in four volumes and pricing them around £60 before discounts.

The annoying thing is with everyone talking about pricing. It will lead Fabulous to think we're not interested in these shows, but people are, it's their business model that's not appealing.

Fabulous are a walking advertisement for going region free. You could pick up a region-free player, and the MC set, and it would still work out cheaper than the FF releases. Plus you get it now, not in 12/18 months which it'll probably take FF to release all the season sets.

If they are really forcing Amazon to sell them at those prices then yes they are wrong but at the end of the day this is 2018, it costs pennies to make these discs. Really all companies should be making everything affordable to people. There's no reason why this couldn't be £20 on release but it's like any other physical media, because it's physical it has to have a premium attached and the general public stopped playing that game some time ago so regardless of what the release is, you're going to get fans buy this set and they should not be ripped off. And if they do tell Amazon to sell this at £40 and Amazon has to do it because they paid a lot in licensing fees then maybe this is a release that.....if it's costing you that much money that you have to charge this kind of money for the physical discs....maybe it's best just being shown on TV. The show has been scanned in HD, the masters exist, if they are really being charged a lot of money for this show when the digital files already exist and have no doubt recouped their costs then they need to have a long think about what they plan on releasing. It's not 2005 anymore.

And now I have to go back and buy the complete DVD set I sold when this was initially announced. Brilliant.

I’ve seen the HD masters of MSW and they’re brilliant, but at £40 an initial pop, I’m good.

As you mention the real cost is in the Licensing of the show, and not really the physical cost of discs and distribution (though they're not negligible). Basically it comes down to pure economics as smaller companies like FF need to pay large fees to license the show for UK distribution. Blu Ray sets of Murder She Wrote won't fly off the shelves at any price as the market is limited so they need to make a return on investment as they have a lot of fixed costs to cover with low sales. Hence the high RRP compared to US released of the same shows.

Here's an interview with one of the people from Fabulous Films which touches on this topic. http://www.dvdcompare.net/features/f..._interview.php

So, I've taken the chance and bought this set in the support/hope that more seasons will be released.

I've only watched the first episode so far and all round it seems pretty good, the PQ is very vibrant and strong and the audio is lossless (thank god).

I've not been able to test if it's region free or not, but I'm guessing it's Region B-locked, because the 'B' logo is on the back of the case.

I wish that Fabulous Films could have made Chapter stops for the shows intros so you coidl skip to the opening titles and a chapter at the end of the credits.

I don’t like watching the opening show run downs I’d rather go into the story blindly, but if you go to the next chapter stop it takes u past the end of the credits and a few mins into the epsiode

You see the problem is that you can get the entire series for £39.95 and it includes the four films as well, unfortunately it's only on DVD.
