Looks like a DVD. Soft. Far from a 4K restoration. The 3-D version - which is also soft - seems to have more detail.

I received both Legacy sets in the mail yesterday, but JUST got a chance to skim through Creature 2. It IS soft beyond belief. No better than a dvd and I'm really not as susceptible as others to video anomalies. I agree with Jim that this HAS to be a mistake.

Walks among us looks great tho I only checked out the first 10 minutes....

WALKS AMONG US is beautiful. It's pretty goddamned sad when THAT's the biggest success of this set.

Somebody must have substituted the master file with a working file and then the discs were pressed and then quality control failed to take a peek and the thing snowballed from there. We'll never know for sure, but somebody might be getting fired. It's understandable how quality control misses things sometimes, but this one is a doozy.

I didn't watch much, but what I saw looked very soft. I took a quick look at Creature Walks Among Us and could definitely see a difference.

Universal does have a history of blaming such issues on individual players and software updates etc,
so everyone with this disc and everyone that wants this disc should take the trouble to report the real issue to Universal:
Get Universal to the real issue rather than the "upgrade your software" or "player specific" replies from the company.

I experienced this nonsense with their old DVD-18 of their Hammer set. They continued to protest to the end even after directly sending me a checked and corrected disc on the third try.

So, don't wait for others to report this. Do so as soon as you can.

I am certain the 3-D Film Archive will make them aware that there is an issue and that Universal will not deny it. I will send a complaint, nonetheless. I really hope the replacement program is announced Wednesday and is put on the fast track. I only watched a little bit of the beginning. I don't want to watch it like this. I'll hold off for the replacement.

If anyone is interested, The Invisible Man Returns looks spectacular.

I don't have the set (yet), but I sent off a "Your stuff is broken" message to Universal anyway.

OT, when I went to Best Buy to buy the big box set, they didn't have it. They didn't have much of anything. I asked if they were phasing out movies and the staff said yes because everyone does Netflix these days. I don't believe they are planning to stop carrying physical media altogether but it certainly looks that way. The movie section is already half what it was 3 months ago.

That's a good idea.

Those of us who are planning to buy the set should also get involved in raising Universal's awareness of the problem as well.

This was a complete 4K workflow scanned off the original 35mm elements from start to finish.

The image on the restored digital 3-D masters is stunning and comparable to our 4K restoration of THE MAZE....

We should all do that: https://www.uphe.com/contact-support

It’s a bit premature to “bombard” Universal. The 3D Archive has contacted them. How about we wait for a response? Perhaps it was an honest mistake and the programmers thought they were authoring a YouTube video instead of a Blu-ray. They will correct a mistake. But if they answer that it was an intentional cost-cutting decision and they aren’t going to correct it, THEN we can get out the pitchforks and bombard their email and twitter account.

The studio was notified seven hours ago and it’s now 9 PM in Los Angeles, I don’t think we’ll be getting a reply today.

I will let you know as soon as we get a statement on this issue.

But---- in the spirit of classic Universal horror, knee-jerk mob mentality with blazing torches feels entirely appropriate.

I would certainly agree that none of us should bombard their Twitter account.

I do feel that everyone should make them aware at the contact site for Universal Home Video so that they do know that this should be corrected. It is not too early to do that.

Yep, that's what I was expecting, and that's what this should have been. It's incredible that this was put out there like this. Somebody obviously erred along the line.

This might go down as the most significant botched Blu-ray release of all time. Somebody really fell asleep at the wheel. It's amazing that, after all the time and money that went into fixing up this movie, somehow it was a gigantically flawed product that made it all the way to customers' homes in the end. It's apparent there was no quality control at work here. You'd think somebody would have taken one from the batch and tested it.

Well, just got to hang back and wait for the replacement announcement. What a disappointing, frustrating day.
