Default Sony S350 Help with updating firmware

I have the S350 and I am having a really hard time updating the firmware. I tried attaching the ethernet cable from the player to my lapltop. It did not work. I then tried to burn the update on a disc. The player gave an error message. Help!!! Where do I go from here? Should I have directly connected to my wireless router or my cable modem? Those items are kinda a long way away from the player so that is why I tried to use my laptop. I would really appreciate any help you guys can give me.

The best way is to use the Ethernet cable, took all but 3 minutes to update... Also burning the CD is pretty easy as well... I would try it either way, I ran a cable to from my modem to my 350 and it didn't take very long via the web to update. My S-300, I still need to burn CDs, as well with my older Panasonic.

when you burned the firmware disc, did you use a cd?

also did you burn as an "image"? (not a "data" cd)

...easiest way would be to connect to modem as mentioned.

+1

Definitely need to burn an image of the file, which you can do by following the instructions on the Sony support page link in Farscape1's post above.

Had no problem updating firmware with a CD (version .007 to version .010). Worked on the first try, and also used the CD I made to update a friend's brand new 350 as well. It takes about ten minutes once the updating starts (you'll see the progress in stages on the 350's digital display). It's a little nerve-wracking at first because once the updating process begins, it takes a little bit of time for the "step counter" to go from step 1 to step 2. But it eventually gets through all of them, and then it restarts the player for you.

like said above, u need to burn an Image File of the disc
just right click the file after u extract it and select Burn Image option and then pop into ur player once its burned

as far as the ethernet cable to laptop, ethernet on the laptop is only and in not an out, u need to go directly to the router or modem

I had some problems with mine so I called Sony and ask them for a CD. Sony sent me a CD in 3 days. Update is very easy if you have a CD.

Thanks to everyone for the quick replies. I will just go buy a much longer ethernet cable and hook it straight into the modem.

easy as Pie.

Download the firmware update. (remember where you saved it)

Download/install DVD Decrypter.

Place a blank cd in the drive.

Open dvd decrypter, go to:

Mode -> ISO -> Write

...select the firmware location.

...Then Burn.

All done. Easy as pie. Pop into your bd player and update.
