Yeah they haven't reversed anything, just opened it up to other places with rules, and not cause they are fans, but because they are feeling it in the pre-order numbers.

I preorder all the titles I want directly from Scream Factory, mostly because I like getting them early, but also because I like supporting the company, which has brought so many classic horror films to the medium, films that would still be sitting in the vault elsewhere. I consider any specialty title at or under $30 to be acceptable. I consider a specialty label to be anything other than a major movie studio--companies that focus on pulling these films out of a vault somewhere, restoring them, and maybe giving them extras features. Films that the studios obviously have no interest in releasing. Scream Factory, Twilight Time, Kino Lorber, Arrow, Severin, Criterion, Unearthed, Vestron, etc. Scream factory is selling CE's for $28.43, and non CE's for $23.99. This is new, release day prices. It's worth it to me to have Creepshow in a nicely packaged special edition for $28.43. It's a collector's edition, meaning it is designed for the collector. You're not going to get it much cheaper than that, because it's a specialty catalog title that the label paid for, and paid to design new features and extras. It's not Rush Hour 3. Rush Hour 3 is a title you can find in any used media store for under $4. It's also a studio title, and it's also garbage, directed by a guy who will never be used in a same sentence with visionaries like George Romero and John Carpenter.

If the prices are too much for you, there are streaming services available. The streaming service is a great tool for the casual fan. But to think CEs and SEs of physical copies of films are going to go much cheaper than $30 is crazy. It's not going to happen. Yes, Kino has great sales, and you can snag some of their catalog titles for $8; but that's the exception, and it's part of their model. No one else is going to do that. As collectors of Blu-rays, you have to consider that it's not the same as it was. Prices are only going to go up, especially in a world where the casual fan can steal or stream the movie for free.

But as a true collector, if it's a title I want I'm going to buy it directly from them, or from Diabolik. You have to weigh what it's worth to you. But they're not going to give it away just because you want it for cheap.

Creepshow is $34.93 through Shout

Sadly people have to realize that less profit is better than no profit at all. I know these acqusitions where expensive, but if you sell too high, you'll get less sales. If our complaining is too much for people, I can set up a go fund me. That way these people who seem to have infinite supply of cash and can pay the price no matter how ridiculous, can donate money to help others pay the difference from the low to mid 20s range. Then there's no complaining. They already lost a sale in Candyman from me, because I'm getting Arrows. When it comes to me.... They didn't get a little extra money out of me, they got nothing instead. All the money that I would of given to them, went to another label.
So, clearly $30+ for a movie isn't a problem? Not trying to start a fight, I'm just not understanding why people are okay buying from Arrow and Vestron at crazy prices, but if Shout doesn't sell it at $20 on day 1, it's an issue.

There are a growing number of people who seem unable to make the connection between quality content and premium pricing. I have no problem paying for their releases as they always go the extra mile to make it worth it.
There's so much self entitlement here now that it makes me sick, people who won't pay what something is worth but who are also the first complain when the release of Slumber party massacre doesn't come in a diamond encrusted slip cover with 100 hours of special features and have a 4k transfer that looks like it was filmed yesterday !!!

I just preordered The Evil from Amazon.ca for $23.09 CDN shipped, which works out to $26 and some change in US Dollars. It's not even available to preorder yet on Amazon.com (only available to stream via Prime) but it gets weirder. On Blu-ray.com, there's one of those "We'll notify you when it's available to preorder" disclaimers usually reserved for Blu-rays that haven't even been reached conception stages - this for a release that's 3 weeks out. On Amazon.ca the actual price for the BD is about $18 USD which is exactly my comfortable price point but shipping is $8. I haven't checked any other Scream Factory titles yet but if prices are reasonable that's where I'll be buying them from. Canada - of all places lol

While one could argue that Arrow goes a little bit further in what they offer as far as packaging, I own fewer of their titles for a handful of reasons, among them being their higher prices at/after release, as well as the issues I've encountered more than once with a limited edition that I PRE-ORDERED well in advance, only to have Amazon say "They didn't send enough. They won't send us more. We cancelled your order" and leave me scrambling, and paying 20-30 USD MORE to track it down at a boutique seller before it disappears entirely. Sure, a cheaper, trimmed down version might hit later....but usually several months down the road.

Vestron, I only own a few of. While I appreciate the offerings, I wouldn't call them above and beyond what Scream offers. And, at least of the ones I do own, the price didn't really come down until well after release (other than a random 1 day sale here or there).

Scream is not a major studio. You aren't going to find them with an MSRP of 35, but flooding the aisles of all retailers for 19 on release day. Would I love for things to shift back and still be able to get them for 22-25 on Amazon pre-order? Yes. I'd love that. But, the titles I really want, I also knew were being sold at a lower price than any of their competitors could be found for at the time. I think they need to be smarter about whatever changes they need to make. And they need to communicate what's going on with their consumer base. But, I don't think they're trying to screw anyone over with this. And other than it being a change from what we're used to, I don't see how it's that much worse than what Arrow or other labels already do.

The titles I really, really want and need, I'll still buy (probably directly from them to get it early). The titles I'm just kinda into, I'll probably hold off on longer than usual. It's a pain, I guess, but?

$23.09 in Canadian dollars - shipping is $8 CDN. Works out to about $26 USD. By the way, I thought Prime membership crossed over into all Amazon branches?

Just ordered Exorcist II, The Seventh Sign and Scream For Help for $60.02 USD so twenty bucks a pop + shipping. Best deal around I think.

I think it does, actually. I'm currently not a prime member.

Trick R’ Treat now has a new 2K scan. Preorders must have been soft, or they realized if they’re going to charge a premium price for a double dip, they’d better step up their game.

It's a pretty stacked release. Surprised at the new scan, but glad they're doing it.

Jim Wynorski announced it coming from Scream Factory on his FB page, but removed the post an hour or two later. Scream Factory has since denied having it, like they do with everything else. When I asked Wynorski if they were still doing it he said, "I hope so." So there you go...

Any member of this forum in good standing (who's been here about a month with 10 or so forum posts) can update database entries. In fact, there's no way that the very few dedicated people working on it could ever enter everything, and the more regular members who contribute to the database here the better.

That being said, the status of the US release on Amazon doesn't look good: https://www.amazon.com/Evil-Blu-ray-...dp/B07F9DN8K9/ For various reasons it's better to wait for Amazon to at least have a price offered and actively be selling this in order for Blu-ray.com to link to them. An actual release date is preferable.

I don't support their crazy prices either. Vestron releases I don't usually buy right away. I wait for the same price level. Same with Arrow, other than say Last House on the Left, I paid $30 for, but look at the packaging and what comes with it and all that. I'm fact, I preordered Arrows Candyman in the UK and the final price was still cheaper than what SF is charging within this country (America) for their release. I don't see an issue expecting an average release to be in the lower 20s, when most where, up until a few months ago. I don't know... I guess me giving them say.... $22 for an average release is worse than giving them no money at all. I guess they rather less sales at a higher price point (less money overall) than selling many at a lower maybe less profitable price (more money overall).

Or, like the other companies, wait for a price drop. They'll have their own sales and I'm sure other distributors will have sales as well. Point was, they're not doing anything the other companies aren't doing.

Oh crap the Americans are on to us Canadians! Quick, someone complain about how they are now inspired to go region free and buy the Candyman Arrow $30+ edition because the Scream edition is just too damn expensive!

Please don't ruin this for us Canadians who already get screwed on the daily!
