Default Sony Delays Almost Everything

I have lost count of how many titles Sony slates then delays.

What happen to Lawrence of Arabia or Glory. Now Dr Strangelove and Taxi Driver have fallen foul as well.

Sony relay needs to get a grip.

At least Ghostbusters seems finally to be coming out.

Taxi Driver was never officially announced. Neither was Lawrence of Arabia if I am not mistaken...

Easy there. Sony and the other studios are hurting and they're doing the best they can. Hopefully the catalog titles will start appearing with greater frequency but it will be tough during the economic downturn.

At least when they do release titles they look and sound amazing, unlike Warner Bros' many halfhearted catalog releases.

Lawrence of Arabia on Blu-ray, though... dang, that would be sweet. Good things come to those who wait.

Agreed.

In addition, many people confuse rumors, speculation, and "reports" as official studio announcements. Hence, disappointments ensue when the studio never announced it anyway.

Actually, Taxi Driver was officially announced. The delay on the other hand wasn't.

From Dec 08 to June 09 is what I would call a delay.

To the original poster - chill out. Like two titles were delayed. Taxi Driver and LOA, despite what others may say, were never officially announced or given dates. There were rumoured dates, that was all.

I would hardly jump to the conclusion that Sony delays almost everything. Go back to the link above for Taxi Drive/Dr Strangelove and Blu-ray.com clearly states:

"As these are all unofficial announcements no additional information is known at this time."

I have heard from a reliable source that Sony had poorer than expected sales of Close Encounters, which was a fantastic release. This may have caused Sony rethink or delay indefinitely other classic titles it was planning to give BD treatment.

If any of you complaining about the absence of Sony classics didn't buy CEotTK (ahem, RustyK94), you've only got yourselves to blame.
