Official rules will be coming later today... and while it WILL be required to pay to be eligible, the amount will come later once we see how many people are interested. It seems to be about 20+ people already who are willing to participate in the prizes. BUT still feel free to participate in this questions/trivia now even if you don't want to pay when it's announced because these are some of your only chances to earn extra entries to the contest.
Long story short, just answer the question and worry about the rest later. The first question is simply: Will you be seeing The Nun in theaters (releases today) -and why or why not. Quote this post (just the question portion) and reply with anything. Submit your reply by 9/8/18 at 9AM Eastern and you will receive 1 entry to the giveaway. |

Attack of the Puppet People (1958)
![]() ![]() I had high hopes for this one, but I was sorely disappointed. The premise is rather fascinating though, a man who runs a doll factory uses a machine that he created to shrink people to the size of a doll. Then he keeps them sealed in a tube in a stasis, bringing them out when he feels lonely. However, there was little suspense or drama here as the story slowly unfurls with a number of illogical plot points, and the illusion of the tiny people was not put to very effective use. There are very few scenes where the illusion of tiny people is even captured, and those scenes were generally wasted on comic relief, like trying to use a telephone (which appears gigantic to them) and bathing in a shaving mug. John Hoyt is excellent as the touched doll creator, and most of the supporting performances are good as well. It's just that there isn't much to the story itself, and any chances to add some punch or actual horror to the proceedings were squandered. By the end, you just kind of raise an eyebrow and say, "really, that's it?" A few years after the release of this movie, a similar idea was explored in the 'Twilight Zone' episode "5 Characters in Search of an Exit," and it is vastly superior in my opinion. So if the idea of people as dolls fascinates you, there are certainly better options out there. Last edited by profholt82; 09-07-2018 at 05:04 PM. Reason: Forgot to add rating |

So, here a few of the movies I've picked up in the last month or so in preparation for the Halloween season. I've narrowed it down to these 3 for tonight (Basket Case, Monster Squad, Sleepaway Camp). Having never seen any of these before, I'll be going in fresh.
![]() So which one should I watch tonight? Rock the vote, horror fans. |

I’m not excited about it, but since my theater has it in IMAX and my subscription covers it I figure it’s worth seeing. The audio/atmosphere should be really good in that format. |

Seeing Nun at 4pm today (leaving work a little early
![]() Two films to recommend (both British and both with interesting endings) Ghost Story: Professor debunks those who believe in the Occult (mediums etc). He will investigate three cases of ghosts, demons and the supernatural. Well cast and written anthology. Visually interesting with a great sound design. Jump scares, but true creepiness throughout the film. I honestly did not predict the ending. Beast: I true nod to "Badlands". ... Though not a true horror film, still the psychological horror and character study. Really well acted and written for the two leads. This compelling film had me guessing and second guessing myself the whole way...I did not see the specific ending coming....but really well done. The halloween/horror film I am really looking forward to won't happen until 11/16. Goblin will be playing the Suspiria soundtrack live at a show in KC (and around the US starting at the end of October). |

The information is all tagged in the start of the thread, but I will present the official rules now for the contest!
HALLOWEEN GIVEAWAY! The contest official runs from September 7th until October 10th. Winners will be notified by/on October 14th. Prizes will be mailed out by/on October 17th. The contest will have a required cost to participate. There are a lot of available items, and the amount of people interested in participating will determine the cost. This will not be decided until later on in September. The currently goal is to have roughly around 45 interested people in participating. If we get this many people, then the cost will be roughly $5 per person. The more people beyond that we have, there will be additional prizes. Also, I am looking to be trying to donating to a charity. You are welcome to donate extra money to gain more entries, and have some of the funds be off to a charity for a good cause. Here are the ways you will be able to get entries! 1. Donate $5.00* to be eligible. Donating $7.50 will give you 2 entries, $10 will give you 3 entries. 2. Participating in the 2018 poll at the top of the thread 3. Making a single post in the thread with at least one movie you watched 4. Answering pop-up trivia questions or polls through out the contest period. Each one is worth 1 entry, and there will be 10 total. This means that there will be a total of 15 entries per person if they donate $10, participate in the poll, make a post of movies they are watching, and answering every pop-up question. *=Exact cost TBD Currently, there will be six winners. 6 out of 45 is a pretty good chance at something, plus money to charity depending on how many generous people we have! this seems obscure, but does the nun remind any one of that tall model from some of the junji ito manga? I'd actually be more interested in that as a movie. |

Probably not -- it's getting poor reviews on RT, and The Conjuring was pretty silly. Much higher on my list is The Little Stranger -- that looks better to me.

Came back from the "Nun". The movie started at 4:11. I checked my watch (yes, that's how dull the movie was) when they showed a full image of Valak on the screen...time was 5:11. The thing about James Wan is he understands you need to sprinkle scares early and often, then build the horror to a crescendo. For those who were teens in the 70's and 80's you'll remember drive in movies...when the big "sex scene" (in the lurid grindhouse movies ie Candy Stripe Nurses) didn't happen till the last 15 mins of a movie. This felt the same way....a lot of tease for 80 mins till the boy and girl finally consummate. This had more in common with the lessor Hammer Horror films than the Conjuring Franchise. If I were to offer a suggestion would be go over the top like Coppola did with Dracula. Fully embrace the over the top visuals and gonzo performance of Hopkins. This felt they took part Conjuring, part Brandon Fraser Mummy franchise and part Hammer Studios for a rather bland cocktail. For me the Valak scene in the Warren's house with the painting and hallway were scarier than any scene in The Nun. I will say this may play better in a small home theater environment, than a large theater.....but that's as strong of a recommendation as I could give. |
