Obviously I don't follow this thread and I didn't read back to notice. Just trying to be helpful. I'm happy that the reaction so far has been really good. I'll probably check this one out in the theater.

This looks like its going to be awesome! Carpenter says, this is what the second movie should have been... it just took 40 years til they could do it. Cant wait for new reditions of the soundtrack too.

Yes, but in Halloween II Myers steals the knife only. You think he's going to kill the old couple, but he doesn't. That's clever.

Hey, all I'm saying is that I'm a little concerned at this point that the film will be overly graphic whereas the original was all about the suspense.

He actually does kill her off screen originally. Carpenter wrote in and reshot the Alice character/death. This is restored (though with what is possibly the worst editing choice in the franchise history) in the TV cut.

If Blumhouse/Green/McBrie pull this off, and generate interest in a sequel that doesn't necessarily involve Michael Myers, then they should get medals.

If my parents saw the Zombie movies, they would have definitely hated both of those films.
Thats because usually gore is just cartooney and silly. It rarely helps a film and doesnt advance the story at all. Its just there to shock the gore-fans. The best horror films are those that truly scare you or have this feeling of impending doom & atmosphere that gets under your skin.

Overly gory films tend to cater to those with a gore fetish. To each their own but thats borderline strange to me. Whatever.

Yeah I champion horror films that have next to no gore but has suspense and an unsettling atmosphere so thick you can literally cut with a knife. I'm fine with gore in horror films but I don't need it. I've never understood the gore fetish either.

Read the shooting script, included on second disc of the Scream Factory collector's edition. This was the version shot by Rosenthal. Scene with old couple plays out the same as the film (i.e. no death) and there's no Alice scene. Alice scene was added in post production.

Just like that, the score on RT drops down to 76%. 3 negative reviews were added recently (5 total now). Here's a quick synopsis of the negative reviews just so we can level our expectations for the movie.

Consequence of Sound (Score : C+) - "It's decent. It has its moments. It's enjoyable enough as supplementary material. It's arguably better than some of the other attempts to capitalize on the success of the original 1978 John Carpenter classic. It's just not quite a good film in of itself."

The Guardian (Score : 2/5) - "Green can't seem to decide whether he wants it to be gritty and lo-fi or slick and cinematic and so ends up awkwardly between the two, anything resembling an atmosphere sorely missing."

The AV Club (Score : 50/C) - "Just another pale imitation, another bad Halloween sequel watering down the fear factor of the original."

Slant Magazine (Score : 1.5/4) - "For all of the film's attempts to get back to the sinisterly sidling Michael of the first Halloween, his stealth movements no longer terrify because his fixations are less unthinkingly instinctual, more compulsively mortal."

Business Insider (No Score) - "For a project that has been riding high with anticipation from "Halloween" fans, this is no way to reward them."

Yeah, I noticed that today. Bit of a bummer but it won’t alter my anticipation for this film.

I just realized this is Golden Girls vs. Michael Myers.

In that 70 percent of the movies in the franchise have been varying degrees of shit, I've always been in "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst" mode. No expectation calibration has been necessary on my end.

That said, I'm still optimistic. The people who actually like horror (vs the average movie critic, people who think Jason uses a chainsaw) who have been chiming in to say it's pretty good.

Movie reviews you can never trust - Horror or Comedy.

The subject matters are just too subjective. I'll care what Halloween fans think about Halloween 2018. Not what critics think.

I’m curious to know what the original plan idea was before Curtis asked to come on board has this been talked about anywhere??

Maybe it was about Laurie’s daughter and granddaughter and Laurie had died already in the story mmmmm

Their original idea was to have a sequel to Resurrection and connect 4-6 to H20-Resurrection so that they’re all in the same timeline. I don’t know what the story would’ve been though.
