It was an attempt to be as cheap as possible for maximum profits. Clearly it didn't go as plan as it has clearly been discontinued. Now it seems any lesser known titles will either be pressed MOD (this movie) or sent to third parties like Mill Creek (Metropolis).

I only hope that doesn't mean other movies they see as poor sellers won't be released on Blu-ray at all. Better to have a BD-R than nothing.

This might be my favorite Tarantino film and it's by Oliver Stone, who I like less than Tarantino.

I guess this doesn't look good for a future remaster when the rights holder thinks it's not even worth pressing discs for.

You're thinking of Natural Born Killers, this one is directed by Tony Scott.

I actually don't care too highly for NBK. I was thinking of TR, just got the directors mixed up between these two.

Is this pretty much the exact same disc as the OOP US Blu?

Lee Donowitz, movie director in True Romance, is allegedly inspired by Oliver Stone.

Color me shocked. I figured with the re-release of the soundtrack that a collector's edition of the film's release was imminent.

But, whatever.

Yeah, I thought True Romance would get a deluxe upgrade at some point. This release would appear to push that prospect down the road for some time. Too bad, I think they've really underestimated this film's following.

Well, so much for my ever hopeful release of a 4K disc. I'll stick with my original WB bluray.

I am shocked that Criterion hasn't grabbed this title - the film has so much bonus material (check out the double disc DVD from a while back), and it's just interesting enough that it fits in their catalog. I initially saw this on laserdisc many years ago, and it has remained one of my favorite motion pictures.

Perhaps WB will see fit to give this one a 4K release at some point in the near future?

Is the Oop Blu-ray the same disc that’s in the Tarantino set?

Kinda...sorta...not really.

The original release in 2009 was a WB disc, which is OOP.
The Tarantino set, which came out three years later was from Lionsgate.
It's price is also inflated due to the uniqueness of the OOP set itself, but I don't know if that edition of True Romance is identical to the WB release.
This latest edition is coming from Sony and nobody really knows if it will have all the same content, but it's believed to have everything ported over from the WB disc.

Warner lost the distribution rights, Sony has the rights now.

Despair over the OOP status of the disc should be combined with the knowledge that the PQ of the BD is abysmal, the kind that's an outright insult to the BD format. Call it a partially upconverted DVD !
