for the true IMAX screens though, do sit near the back of the auditorium (sit a good deal closer than that for the digiIMAX fake ones though)
I just finished building my theater and went with the Lucas recommendation of placing your hands on the the side of your face (like horse blinders). The whole screen should fit between your two hands for viewing. Works great for me and I'm happy with it. I like to be able to see the entire screen. Works out to be 85 inches wide (97.5 inches diag).

That’s nonsense....when looking straight ahead, your peripheral vision goes much further to the left & right than just the side of you face. If you enjoy 3D I would suggest going bigger if able, otherwise your setup will definitely not be very immersive.

I totally disagree with that. I don't want to miss part of what is going on nor move my head around the whole movie. This was built to THX specs and 100" screen is the max you want for my room size. Everyone so far has been way more impressed with the 3D than they have been at the theaters.

George Lucas he told me something I have never forgotten. "Sit in a chair, hold both hands up to the sides of your head, palms in. If your (projected)screen width extends beyond your hands, you will fatigue quickly. I find it to be a good rule of thumb."

Could be personal preference but bigger is not always better in my opinion.

First...You don’t have to move you eyes or your head to have peripheral vision.

Second...if you look straight ahead and move your hands from up against the sides of your face away from your face, you’ll notice that without moving your eyes or head you should be able to go several inches away from your face before they are removed from your field of view.

That is the point at which the 3D screen should end to optimize the immersive experience.

Third...When Lucas said that, he wasn’t referring to 3D.

Well that's cool and all. Thats your opinion and I have mine. I love my set up and I don't want it way to big. It works for me so I'm happy. Hope you have a setup you like just as much as I like mine.

I’ve had small screens like yours and larger ones too and I can tell you that you represent a tiny minority that believes smaller is better for 3D....you know what they say, ignorance is bliss! Cheers

To basically call me ignorant because I do not like an IMAX screen is extremely rude. It is personal preference as to what someone likes and I love my set up. Just because I don't want 150" screen and be sitting 10 feet away from it does not make me ignorant. This is supposed to be a fun chat room so I'm done discussing this. Back to what's important!
