... Wait, so you are saying even in the "Off Topic" section of this board one cannot have an open discussion about their own personal difference of opinion and/or belief on any given subject?

Good thing this thread is about Bill Maher and surely what's a Bill Maher thread without a little debate................

Since I haven't seen this movie I can not comment on what is and isn't in this movie. However I guarantee Bill Maher would welcome any serious religious leader or figure onto his show for a "respectable" debate. It just happens that no religious leader is willing to do so. Although perhaps I bet Mother Theresa would as she doubted her own beliefs and is open to discussing it. At the same time, I wish that John Marco Allegro was still here to discuss his thoughts and findings on religion as well.

Now I don't want to and will not get into a debate about religion as this is not the proper platform but in honor of Bill Maher and free thinkers we should be able to discuss this movie. Having grown up in a orthodox religious family, worrying about whether or not you will burn in hell for watching something like this movie or reading a book that questions faith will do things to your mind. Sounds like abuse, when I think about it.

I enjoy Bill Maher and no one with any kind of sense blindly agrees with each other 100% on all issues. Bill is certainly more respectful of people than most religious figures are, so that says a lot about him. I would rather watch movies like this than watch Jesus Camp or visit that crazy religious museum near Cincinnati, OH. Hopefully this movie is classic Bill Maher and worth owning.

I'm sure I will be attacked for what I'm saying, and it's alright, it doesn't bother me one bit. So it shouldn't bother those with faith, just pray for me !!!

Can't wait to see this movie !!!

Agreed and, by the by, "Jesus Camp" could still be a good film regardless of one's own views (and, even for non-believers as it so-disturbingly depicts radical-evangelistic beliefs at their most deeply-boggling levels).

I considered checking this out, but is it really worth sitting through if you're already aware of how bad religious extremism can be? Does it give a profound message by watching it in its entirety that cannot be contained just as easily within a brief clip?

If you haven't seen it, check out the 2001 doc "Hell House" if you were disturbed by the going-ons of "Jesus Camp."

True, but I just mean for some at least it could prove to be fascinating.

I loved how Bill Maher was too afraid to mock Islam in the same insulting way that he did Christianity, Judaism, and Scientology. I found his spinelessness and to be the most entertaining. Cowardice in loudmouth know-it-alls always has me in hysterics.

It was a well-done documentary but imo, it's not worth owning. Give it a rent. I actually went to "The Holy Land" in Orlando last summer. The gf dragged me(we already saw everything else and it was close by).... it was no Universal that's for sure lol. But the same "Jesus" Bill Maher interviews was there @ the park. I talked to him....just an actor lol. Pretty cool guy who looks like an old guitarist.

As far as park goes, I doubt it will stay afloat for much longer.

Even the Off Topic section has rules. No religion and no politics. Period.

Like when he interviewed the Imam? I think he mocked him pretty well. Or when he talked about suicide bombers, Jihad, etc? He spent a lot more time on Islam than Scientology, mainly because someone from Islam would actually talk to him. Only difference was he had more access to Christian areas. Also, a lot of the stuff he talked about was Old Testament... which isn't that much different for Christianity, Judaism or Islam. How is it cowardice to question? I think it's your bias that has me in hysterics.

That movie speaks volumes !!! I found it shocking and it's almost child abuse, but it does give a peek into the world of their religion.

I agree it's worth a watch either way............ just watch it with the lights on !!!

I actually laughed a few times, but I do agree he was forcing it quite a bit. Be that as it may, I already share the same views as him, so I am at least happy that somebody made a documentary for us non-religious folks.

I don't agree that he was forcing much of anything in the film but I more than agree on the movie being very decent and a step in the right direction, obviously.

Might have to check it out. I'm not sure I like the guy who hosts the thing though. His "interviews" on the trailer seem more like "let's put this crazy religious person in front of the camera thus making me look like the brighter and more enlightened person".

Maybe we watch different versions of Real Time w/ Bill Maher, but he is the most pretentious know-it-all on TV, and I'd say he's certainly more disrespectful to religious than religious people are to irreligious ones.

And thats basically what I took away from the movie, and that made me dislike the movie and him.
