FWIW: If you're not willing to wait, the Finnish Blu-ray from the recent 4k restoration has English subtitles and can be had for 10€ from CDON.

Cocteau's Orphée confirmed here, presumably for release right at the end of this year or early next year!

Fingers crossed they don't mess up the encode this time. I'm very surprised they haven't sorted out the problems with La belle et la bęte, since pretty much every reviewer worth their salt has pointed out the dodgy encoding. Rare of BFI to not even say anything.

Just came across an interesting review of the BFI's Beauty and the Beast on criterionforum.org I find their reviews quite objective, generally, for instance the reviewer only gave Criterion Collection Colour of Pomegranates 7/10. Beauty and the Beast encoding problems reviewed here

Fantastic .. I will now grab a copy and wait for the replacement disc.

Hats off to the BFI for holding their hands up to it and fixing it.

I'll finally order it then. Be happy to get this one!

Now to decide what to get with it, in the 2 for Ł25 offer...

That was my dilemma too ..

In the end I ordered La Belle et la Bete and paired it with Orgies Of Edo (Arrow) , the latter being released in November. So I still get the BFI disc for Ł12.50

This might be for a theatrical re-release, but if it is for a forthcoming Blu-ray (they are doing a comedy season after all, and it seems peculiar to give this film a widespread re-release), it seems BFI might be giving us some Laurel and Hardy, though not quite the Laurel and Hardy we're looking for...

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/utopia-1950

I guess there's are interesting stories surrounding this, and there's also the multiple cuts which might be included. Also, it would be a timely release given the forthcoming Stan and Ollie film.

I wonder when we're going to get the announcements for the rest of the year? October's titles were revealed around six weeks ago now.

It's a shame it's Utopia (or Atoll K).

Stan was very ill during the shoot, and it showed - there's a devastating photo of him on the location shoot: he looks terrible

I won't be buying this (if it is released).

We DO need a boxset (or two) of their shorts and features though. I have The Flying Deuces courtesy of Network on blu-ray: but that's it.

It's definitely for home video, as it does state both that it's a 'Video' submission and 'BFI Video' as the distributor. So it's likely they're lining up a Blu-ray for November/December.

I hope we get Orphée for one of the last announcements too, unless it's not ready 'til early next year. I still need to order La Belle et la Bęte - and then wait for the replacement programme - but I'm very happy Cocteau is finally hitting Blu-ray in the UK!

Isn't the Derek Jarman Vol 2 set due in November?

Also noticed BFI are distributing 9 to 5 theatrically, and since it's part of their comedy season they may well end up putting it on Blu-ray too. It's Fox and therefore not outside the realm of possibility.

I noticed they're also doing a short Jane Fonda season too, including a couple I'd like to see picked up by one or two of the UK boutique labels; Coming Home (MGM) and Cat Ballou (Sony).

Right now it's looking like Red, White and Zero will be the only title for November and December, which is pretty disappointing. I wonder when that horror double feature will turn up now?

Good to see they're doing more Woodfall and Flipside stuff though. Shame it looks unlikely we'll see Orphée this side of Christmas...but I'll be ready for it in the New Year!

Hi, there!

Anyone knows if BFI has already begun a disc replacement programme of “La Belle et la Bęte”? I got my copy from Amazon yesterday and I was also wondering if maybe my copy was kind of a corrected version...

Thanks in advance!!!

If you look in the specific thread for the title someone has provided details regarding this. It hasn't started yet but BFI are aware. You can read more there.

I was lucky enough to buy Cat Ballou in the sale just before it sold out ($15), & it really does look stunning. Someone should release it in the UK.

We're also getting individual releases of Look Back in Anger and The Entertainer in December. Being as I only wanted the Woodfall set for these two and Tom Jones (I already have Runner and Saturday Night), I've just gone ahead and ordered the latter.

Still no standalone Taste of Honey though. Not really interested in the Girl With Green Eyes.

Slightly sparse on disc extras re The Entertainer in comparison to other BFI Woodfall discs but the booklet and having it in HD rather than on VHS will make up for this.
