Yep. DVD sales > BD sales, still.

Your casual consumer doesn’t pay attention to whether something is actually in high definition or not, let alone the correct aspect ratio on their widescreen TV (typically, they just want the entire screen taken up, even by stretching a 4:3 image to fit because they can’t stand the black bars).

They mostly care about the low price = DVD.

I have Samsung 8500 K player. When I put my 4K disc it says that the disc does not meet specifications.

Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix for this problem.
The part that I bolded is very likely a huge part of why you are having this issue. The only fix, unfortunately, is to get another player.

Yeah, they could be better. But compared to the vast majority of Steelbook options for these movies (keeping in mind that I'm referring to the art on the Steelbook itself, and I'm not counting art on various slipcovers, etc. on Blufans releases and the like), most of the options just haven't been all that great IMO.

Honestly, art-wise, the Steelbook that I like the most was unfortunately only released in the UK, and as a result has the "Avengers Assembled" title on it. Had there been a US equivalent (or one from any other region where they just use "The Avengers" title), it would be my favorite current existing option, and I would seek out obtaining one:

Probably the next runner up for me would be the actual Steelbook from the Blufans / Nova Media releases. It is actually kind of a toss up for me whether I would prefer this over the current Best Buy 4K option. I do like that it has the characters front and center, but it is slightly pushing the line on being a "Photoshop monstrosity" IMO. If this was the current 4k Steelbook option at Best Buy, I would be fine with it. But since IMO it is a toss up, and the current BB Steelbook includes the 4K disc and is far cheaper to come by, it wins out by default under present circumstances.

I'm not going to keep posting tons of images of every past Steelbook (anyone who wants to can set their search for "all countries," type in "Avengers steelbook," press Enter, and check out the various options out there).

Honestly most of the past existing options aren't that great. I can somewhat understand the appeal of the minimalist art versions that use the art from the Phase 1 and 2 sets, but it's just not for me.

The releases where the front is just a huge "A" with almost nothing else? No thanks. By comparison, if I'm going to have a Steelbook with a huge "A" on the front, I'd at least rather have it have the characters around it as these 4K steelbooks do.

And while I actually do often appreciate when Steelbooks use the poster art for the cover, in the case of Age of Ultron, that was pretty much a photoshop disaster:
[Show spoiler]

Admittedly, IMO some of the art used on some of the slips for the more premium releases would be better options if they were used for the actual Steelbooks, but as I'm more concerned with what the art is on the Steelbook itself, and not some other cover that goes over it, they just don't count as far as I am concerned.

Is that really true DVD sales still outsell blu-rays? I thought that was surprising, I figured people saw the jump to Blu-ray more, 4K isn't as big of a jump IMO so that's a big problem then. I have maybe 30 4K titles, most of which are new releases. I've bought a few catalog titles but the results have been mixed.
I watched both Avengers and Ultron in 4K and I was underwhelmed. Yeah there was a slight difference but if I had not seen both of them multiple times would I have noticed. Yes there are movies like Gladiator that you can really see a difference but you have to actually get people to buy the equipment and 4k's and have them actually care. Blu-ray's for the most part look so good in 1080P that it is plenty for most people. Also aren't physical media DVD, Blu-ray, and so on sales down in general? People just stream.

Most of my friends just don't care, I have a friend who had his first 4K TV for 4 months before he even knew how to watch something in 4K, I put on a few different 4K videos on You Tube for him and his face lit up, he didn't even know or care to buy any 4K Video's or the 4K Blu-ray player to play them on. I thought after watching that he would want to buy a 4K player, nope he was happy streaming what happened to be in 4K.

I would like to see how they come up with these statistics too. I wonder if BD/DVD or 4K/BD/DVD combo packs count as a sale towards DVD too. I'm sure they are and that would make sense as to why they sell more

Can't speak for the world, but in my area down here in NZ, the store I work at we definitely sell more DVDs. By how much depends on the movie. For blockbusters maybe 5-6x more DVDs, for kids movies and older people movies (eg. Greatest Showman) it can easily be more than 10x more.

It's so true, a lot of people just don't care. I saw tons of DVDs sold for Infinity War vs other formats. Or, a great example is how I'm the "tech guy" at work so people always ask what to buy. One of my coworkers wanted a new TV and asked me what to buy, if she should get a new 4k set. I asked her what she watched. She said she only watched DVDs and some satalite because she "didn't see the point to bluray". I told her at that point, it really didnt matter what TV she bought because the DVDs would look the same, and 4k would only make sense to her if she wanted to upgrade in the future.

I don't believe combo packs count towards DVD sales. And I believe that whether it is just BD or 4K, it is all counted towards Blu-Ray in total, but they also keep track of the separation of how 4K is doing, etc.

The main reason why DVD as a format in general still outsells Blu-Ray is due to the sheer amount of content that is only released on DVD and doesn't make it to Blu-Ray. There a lot of content like smaller titles, obscure titles, some TV shows, etc. that only get released on DVD. While individual numbers of any one title (especially for smaller/obscure titles) don't "set the world on fire," collectively over time they add up to quite a bit.

When it comes to movies released on both Blu-Ray and DVD, the distribution of how much sells on each format depends on the movie. For major blockbuster films (Marvel, Star Wars, etc), it has become common for Blu-Ray to outsell DVD, though DVD still makes up a decent chunk of sales even when Blu-Ray outsells it. But when a typical comedy movie comes out, for example, it's not uncommon for DVD to outsell Blu-Ray, or even if Blu-Ray does come out ahead once in a while with that sort of title, it's not nearly by as much of a lead as it is with the bigger blockbuster films.

I still think there is this big misconception that somehow only big action/special effects blockbusters "benefit" from HD. And of course that isn't true - all movies do.

Granted, if in a "gun to my head" scenario, I was presented with (as random examples) Avengers Infinity War and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and forced to choose one that I could only watch on DVD going forward, and the other I could watch on Blu-Ray and any future better formats, of course I'm going to go with Infinity War for the Blu-Ray + Future formats option, and Bueller for DVD. BUT since in reality I'm not living in such a scenario, I'm not going to opt for DVD for either of them.

We are only obsessed with DVD sales because we are on this forum and just can't understand why people still want DVD.

Most people go to movies or watch it on DVD, it's a one time enjoyment, they aren't collectors.

When people were first able to buy VHS tapes the general public was so excited to own movies they started a collection. Then DVD came along and like CDs they were so convenient, they started collecting those too. But after seeing a pile of VHS tapes and DVDs in their garage that they never watch, the collecting mentality for the general public was over.

More than DVD sales or rentals, streaming will take over.

How easy it was instead of digging through my collection to find Person Of Interest Season 1 last episode just to go to Vudu and watch the episode.

That was a real Ah HA! moment for me.

The thing is if I buy Person Of Interest Season 1 on Vudu it only costs a little bit more to get the bluray discs and the digital code.

While joe and jane schmoe don't care, the better deal is to buy the bluray with code. I used to sell my codes but given my ah ha moment I think I'm going to start redeeming.

I go to a used record store regularly and the amount of DVDs pouring into the store is mountainous. If you bring in a paper box full of DVDs you'd be lucky to get $2. He has no room for them. He sells them for a buck.

Blurays you can get more for them if they are current but I've seen blurays even end up in the $1 bin like Hangover. If a bluray is going for less than $5 on Amazon he'll probably only give you $1 for it if you're lucky.

It really is convenient especially if you have kids that are used to using Netflix/etc... I'd much rather them not mess with physical media because they always mess something up or not put it back properly.

Unless its it's a brand new movie or a Disney cartoon, used DVDs are pretty much worthless because like you said, there are too many of them. There's a flea market here you can get them for 75 cents each. There are countless lots on ebay for dirt cheap.

Yeah I almost pulled the trigger on the blus when I added every one of my digital codes to my vudu to get them all in order lol, since my Avengers 1 code/ Cap 1st avenger codes were too old and didn't work... I bought the blu-rays (with the gold slips) and almost picked up the two blu-ray steels but held off.

I had 10 dollar code about to expire so I used it to get age of ultron steel but they really hurt the sales between the gold case re-relase compounded by the blu-ray steels RIGHT before these release in my op.

My store got more in stock (which is odd for them) and had 4 of each (2 of each were slashed) so I got to exchange my "damaged" copies for ones that weren't slashed.

Thats because they are $35 for a movie people have purchased from day 1 from their original release.

And because literally all of them have spine slashes. My store has about 20 copies of each, every single one is faulty.
