Even so, I do expect a measure of permanence with my movie purchases and I would be highly annoyed if any of them simply disappeared from my collection. If I were then met with a cavalier attitude from the party responsible for that removal, then I would get angry. I prefer the low stress of your outlook, though. |

![]() I got personal stuff I’d care if I lost, but insignificant stuff like digital copies or music or whatever isn’t something I can’t easily replace. I’d set my entire disc collection on fire if it meant having my grandma back, even for a day, so nah I don’t value this stuff deeply nor find enjoying digital a problem. I love film, but the effort to complain to Apple over the loss of one or two items isn’t worth my time when I could easily find it again or just accept it as gone. |

As this affects digital customers, it is important to hear from them and how they feel about this news. |

Also who says it is limited to one item. Your other point is true but we would all feel that way about loved ones, stilk doesnt mean we dont care about our material possesions. Last edited by Steedeel; 09-13-2018 at 07:09 PM. |

Value. That’s what you’re not getting from my side. If I watch a movie a few times and ten years down the road it disappears, do I feel like I got my $20 worth? Sure. I pay more to see it a single time in theaters. That’s okay with me. I do not feel I’m being ripped off.

I really like that movie quote, also. It reminds me of the Janis Joplin classic Me and Bobby McGee: "Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose Nothin', don't mean nothin' hon' if it ain't free, no no And, feelin' good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues You know, feelin' good was good enough for me Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee" |

Just sort of seems like the physical media zealots have been waiting for this day and here it is. Think pieces are just popping up everywhere. Good luck to everyone trying to house 150,000,000 discs. |

“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have” - Eckhart Tolle You have spent hours worrying about the future of an inanimate object, which is fine spend your time how you wish, but don't you think you'd be better served just buying your movies, enjoying them, and not getting attached to what they may be next? Maybe it's 8K? VR? Holograms? Digital Only? Enjoy the experience of the film, not lost in the package it came in. But that's just me. |

I am not overly attached to my collection. It's nice to have since I love film, but my world wouldn't end if I lost it or pretty much any material possession. And I don't stress over losing any of my movies. I've sold or lost many over the years. If digital works for you, that's awesome. But if I choose to spend my money to purchase something, I should be the one to decide whether or not I have access to it. |

I've seen some hard core vinyl record collectors have massive storage buildings full of crates. I'm sure if you're that deep into movies you could afford a temperature controlled building. |

I have a moderate sized collection, compared to some, and storage is not a problem. Nearly everyone I know has a lot of something- you really discover this when you have to settle an estate. In my case, that "something" are movies. |

I admire several aspects of your attitude, but I still care passionately about my library. Access to it, as Ender14 pointed out, must remain my decision, not that of any studio, content provider, or our latest euphemism: storefront. |

I obviously care about "stuff" or I wouldn't buy the dumb stuff I do to get enjoyment out of. I'm pretty positive my perspective is very much influenced by seeing death and evil done by others to me or loved ones that I can have a sense of detachment in the view of not worrying about losing non-priority items. Do I waste an hour or more complaining to Apple about a $10 item or do I value my time (and patience) more that I just buy the $10 item again elsewhere? This isn't a blanket approach to everything, but for fleeting entertainment I don't find the need to be possessive over it. I have movies I bought 10-15 years ago (and longer) that I've not touched since that time. Sure they're "there" should I want to watch them, but time has shown the chances of revisiting everything are very, very slim and if they vanished, I wouldn't even notice. Just an entire fluidity thing to personality, what you like at the time, how much you got from it, etc. I sound like a Movie Buddhist. ![]() In truth, I think a lot of buyers of media are like that in the sense of continued or new interests and lack of revisiting movies (classics/outliers aside). |
