Yea..the EE is the way to go. I rather have the studio release this trilogy right or don't release it at all. They should just import everything from the 4 discs dvd version including ALL the bonuses onto blu ray wtih full 1080p and lossless sound.
If they can do that...then it is worth it to double dip...imo |

What is so much better about the extended versions? Is the extra footage crucial to the story/character development...or is it just for the fans? I have not seen any accept the theatrical version of the first film......(yes, i know)

There is a lot more character development (you get to know a lot more about the background of the characters; i.e. why Frodo lives with his uncle, Aragorn's mother etc etc). There's added/extended scenes that make the plot clearer, fill in the blanks and just make it a more fulfilling story. I highly recommend you check them out.

The Extended Editions provide more scenes and extra background information to the story which the filmmakers deemed expendable for the theatrical release (no mainstream crowd is going to sit through Return of the King for 4 hours). If you're an LotR fan, the EE's are the way to go. But some people prefer the theatricals as the pacing slows to a snail's crawl at times in the EE's.

I usually don't like 'behind-the-scenes' stuff, but the LotR bonus features are great. It's not until you see PJ's decision-making in action and the things they use to create Middle-Earth when you really appreciate what all went into it. |
