As I said, if the 4K60 setting specifically is set to 4:2:0 then the player will output HDR streaming (locked to 50/60 remember, no 24p option as of yet) in converted SDR. Set it to the full-fat level, 4:4:4, and streaming HDR will work fine.

You've got to search specifically for the HDR version.
Thanks, The Jack Ryan series is working now in HDR.

I think it's around 10€.

Now they list again that the UB420 is Dolby Vision capable with that firmware.

To bad that UHD discs do not come with subtitles for us that are not native speakers of English, German, French or Italian. If only Panasonic could offer a custom subtitle function, or even better, a subtitle "copy" function that would allow you to insert the standard Blu-ray, copy the subtitles you need (because the standard Blu-ray actually has those!), swap to the UHD disc and playback the UHD disc with the copied subtitles. This can't be that complicated and would put Panasonic in a really good position if implemented.

Great news with Dolby Vision on the UB424.. The UB424 is now available in Germany for around 180€.... With the modded FW you get all the features from the 9004 (even DV)

That's if you're deemed worthy enough to receive the modded firmware. Bonne chance, mes amis!

Not surprised that it makes the 420 DV capable though, Panasonic are using the same silicon in this range of players just as they did with the previous generations and if the DV processing wasn't contained on a separate chip (it can be done in software now) then it stands to reason that the modded firmware would be able to unlock it.

That's correct. It worked for my BDT700 and hopefully also for the 424... But i will wait til the FW is already stable before buying the modded fw. Also the modded fw is only available in 1.21A at the moment . My player has already the 1.26 installed

I'm using the 820 with a 2018 Vizio P series, and Dolby Vision discs are so dark that I have to blast the brightness on my tv all the way up from 50 to around 70, just to be able to have it look normal. Anyone else have a similar issue? Thx.

I give you a 10 for your idee.
Here in the netherlands all disney
releases on uhd have no dutch translations. Only on the bluray.
Panasonic can be the player everyone wants!

This is a interesting review that compares the OPPO UDP-203 to the Panasonic DP-UB820. Both players have their pluses and minuses. With OPPO offering more input and output jacks and support for SACD and DVD-Audio.

Panasonic offers exclusive HDR10+ support however their are rumors that OPPO Digital INC might issue a firmware update to offer HDR10+ support.

Sorry if it's already been answered but i've read most of this thread and couldn't find the answer.

Does HDR and DV work with the LG 65E6 OLED TV? I want to order this player but want to make sure before I spend $500. If not I will go with the Sony UBPX800/LGUBK90 as it's about $200 cheaper.

TIA

Hi all, forum newbie but been watching many posts. Finally pulled the pin and bought the UB820 having bought numerous 4k discs and not having a player to play them till now.

Setup – LG E6 OLED, UB820 HDMI direct to TV and separate HDMI for audio to Yamaha RX-A3050. I’m aware of the 2016 OLED limitations.

Streaming apps – like others I got the black screen with Netflix on the first attempt, though after some playing around I found that Dolby Vision does work BUT the image is down sampled to 1080p. This happens in both Netflix and Amazon Prime. I’m not sure in the end if it’s the TV or the UB820 reducing the resolution to 1080p.

When DV is on, Amazon Prime (at 1080p) reports Dolby Atmos in the amp as well, though nothing I do will get Atmos to appear for Netflix and it remains DD+. If I turn off DV – both Netflix and Amazon Prime report HDR at 4k for the image and both report DD+ for audio. No changes I make here will get Atmos work on either.

As you can see, interesting issues and quite perplexing why Atmos is not working with the HDR setting on Amazon Prime or with Netflix at all.

4k disc usage – so far, no issues and looks amazing. Ready Player One looks like a totally new movie in DV and with Atmos to bluray, new detail popping everywhere in both audio and picture.

Welcome as a new member to Bluray.com. I hope we all provide helpful assistance for our hobby. I don’t have answers to your direct questions, but if I could suggest I think another member recently helped someone by telling them to make sure their streaming parameters were set to 4K60p 4.4.4. Try reading back the last 4 pages in this thread for recent activity.

Good luck with the new player. Panny is very good.

Just placed an order for the 820 at Best Buy. Looking forward to picking it up in a couple of hours. I’m excited to set it all up. The great HDR optimizer and being able to sell my 203 for a bit of a premium make the purchase a no brainer. Now I just need to put playing more Spider-Man off long enough to set the 820 up this weekend.
