True, he did not want it converted to 3D in the first place and that's why it was never released in the US even in theaters. I did get the import 3D disc.

Darren Aronofsky is quite a pretentious film maker IMO so 3D is probably beneath him.

Deakins isn't a fan of either.

I know everyone has their opinions, but the dept h and realism of people, landscapes and objects in a good 3d transfer is unsurpassed, i just cant rationalise in my head how any person can prefer the 4k of ragnarock to the 3d for example

I was going to see this in theaters but since they cancelled the US 3D release then I guess I'm not now. Any word on 3D releases anywhere in the world that are solid?

- it could be quite witty at times, and they got a few big laughs with the audience. There were other times when you just wanted them to be quiet and it undercut the tension. It wasn't to the point where it turned everything to farce, but maybe just that bit more than was to the movie's benefit.

It stems from having so many characters and wanting to give them all a few lines. At times the comedy walks that dangerous line of possibly going too far with some questionable material, but I think they just about avoided triggering the outrage machine.

For what it's worth I'd be tempted to give it another viewing. For the 3D and action rather than the humour. And potentially to see if I can make any more sense of the confusing plot. It wasn't a bad time.

I believe they brought it up after the film was completed which is why he was against it, because if he'd have known they wanted to do so he would've obviously shot it in a different way.

It was distracting in the sense that it was copied from other movies, including the first Predator, and if you watch a lot of movies you'll start thinking of them. There's the obligatory lift from the first movie with vagina jokes only these weren't funny. There's also a stolen joke from Naked Gun 3 that falls completely flat. Alexa tells better jokes. NONE of it was funny. There is a
[Show spoiler]friendly predator dog
, also not funny. There is a scene where a predator
[Show spoiler]flips someone off with a severed hand, stolen from Deadpool
; funny if you're 12. The only thing it was missing was a predator that exclaims "Let's rock!!".) This movie sucked for comedy (and everything else) but if it is released somewhere in 3D, I'll give it another go.

Predator was always a comedy. It had Arnold in it, after all.

You call this a delusion!?

I would've jumped at the chance to see The Predator in 3D in the US if they offered it. Now I'll wait and see it probably on DVD when it's $4. I'm a partial Predator fan, so no hurry.

Yeah, that stinks. Disappointing there's no 3D version to experience yet other than for a limited time in select countries, as with Alpha 3D.

I think the idea was that the people taking their photos with these guys would put it on facebook and this will generate hype. Not a bad idea, but wasted on the likes of me.

I would say this isn't a bad movie at all; it didn't feel like a rehash of previous Predator movies, and they had a lot of new concepts and ideas, many of them good. Somehow it didn't all come together. It was all fast moving, with interesting things going on, and a lot of information to process, but always a nagging feeling that things don't quite add up. Felt like a lot of deliberate confusion and distraction to gloss over things. There's a multitude of characters in this, and it seemed like they never stop telling you stuff. Some quite good actors, but too much banter, bickering, and spouting comedy dialog. The one important element largely absent was scenes of quiet, carefully choreographed suspense.

I've never been a major fan of the series, they always felt in a similar vein to the Alien and Terminator franchises, but never quite on the same level. I found the first film effective, never saw the sequel in its entirety, found AVP ridiculous, and thought Predators was quite solid, if forgettable. The Predator feels like a much more substantial movie than any of these; it's expansive, with a lot of ingredients, and a lot of world building going on. It even sets up a sequel. A lot of effort clearly went into this, and if I had to boil down my criticism, I would say this is a film that is fundamentally lacking in focus. It goes off in too many different directions. It's been a number of years since I saw any of them, but I recall both Predator and Predators being tighter overall.

The 3D is a reputable conversion. It has been done to a high standard in general, as conversions go. A few fleeting scenes may have been slightly off, but never glaringly so. Expect strong/medium depth and separation, solid foreground objects with volume for much of the film. As expected, a large portion of The Predator is set at night. I didn't have any problems with darkness or dimness and thought the lighting was well handled. I couldn't say there was anything especially unique or memorable about the 3D presentation, but it's a worthwhile added enhancement to a mostly entertaining movie.
Helpful and detailed review, thanks a lot Interdimensional. Great to hear the 3D sounds promising.
I really would like to see a 3D blu ray asap.

I really liked this movie until the third act, when the pacing got so rapid-fire and choppy that I couldn't follow what was happening. This was compounded by a couple unfortunate elements of my screening; there were times dialogue was drowned out by sound effects, and some idiot kept pulling out a bright phone and distracting me. That and the rushed editing combined meant that, as a friend who saw it separately pointed out to me later, I completely missed a couple of brief but very important bits explaining some of what was going on towards the end.

If it actually does come out on BD3D somewhere I can import it from, maybe I'll give it another go. Probably wouldn't bother watching it flat again though.

Watched this tonight. Kind of glad if it doesn't get a 3D blu-ray because the last half an hour is truly terrible. The story makes absolutely no sense. I can't even bother outlining in spoilers why it's so bad because if you see it you'll know.

Some of the action is entertaining, but all the suspense of the original Predator movies is missing. 2 out of 4 from me.

I'm in the US so no 3D for me but I found this film very dark so maybe not the best film for a conversion? The movie itself I enjoyed but the editing was horrendous and CGI average at best.

Why would anyone be glad if a movie doesn't get a 3D blu ray? Ridiculous. Loads of us 3D fans want every 3D movie available on 3D blu ray.

Meaning I would still buy it even though I know it's terrible.
