I don't think the 80G was completely software emulation though. I still think it had a part of the PS2 inside.

Having models that don't have BC really hurts the PS2 downloads through PSN thing. And the 80GB still had the graphics chip from the PS2 in it.

I agree with Max that they shouldn't have said anything about those rumors. That was a bit much on the vitriol they were spewing on the PSP2 rumor. They like having IGN report on Sony stuff, right?

As for the buying an emulator rumblings, I'll say again I'll happily work on it as soon as Sony gives the community the tools (RSX in linux at the absolute minimum). Not that I can do much, the real wizards already work for Sony. Might help if the PR people stop declaring BC dead...

Just buy a PS2 slim. They are hardly taking up any space and most games on ps2 look better on a small screen anyway.

Many of us don't want yet another device. Some don't have the inputs, some don't want the clutter, some don't like the look. Besides which there was previously there was a better solution for this that doesn't cost Sony to make as much as we'd be willing to pay for a premium SKU with the capability. Whether that would scale enough to be profitable for SCEI or not, is the magic question. Or maybe they're bleeding so much red ink, that couldn't if they wanted....
