Paidgeek, thanks for all the info you have provided this forum.

My questions are, When do you think the first BD+ release will be, and will the current Sony players require a firmware upgrade to play them?

great to know. just pre-ordered it.

For the love of God....

paidgeek, talk to Sony and the rest of the BDA for that matter...

Warner has finally done something right. Something better than SONY!

I just got my order from Amazon today: 300 on Bluray, and The Patriot on Bluray. I opened 300 first. EASY! They have only 1 security sticker on the case. It was at the top, and the ease of removing this sticker was the easiest one yet!

Then I moved onto opening The Patriot case. Of course there were 3 stickers on this one: Top, side, and bottom. The top wasn't too bad (though it was still a bit too "sticky" than necessary. The side and bottom ones are always the worse though. STOP PUTTING STICKERS THERE! The stickers just don't want to come off because half of it is being stuck to the clear-plastic that the sleeves are inserted behind. The goo sticks to that transparency too much.

Sony, I hate to say it, but follow WARNER in this matter. 1 security sticker, at the top only. NO MORE stickers on the transparency!

Got to say, completely agree on this and I'm not the only one. Is'nt it possible Sony could put some pressure on retailers to at least do what European releases do.. have that plastic cover wrap around the outside as opposed to all that glue everywhere.. it's not the most impressive of things to try and show off to your mates when your having to peel apart your films from each other before putting them on. I'm not the only one with this complaint either, both of the other people I know in person with Blu-ray players have been annoyed by this problem.

I thought this was resolved already. I don't know why "The Patriot" has 3 stickers. The message has been passed on and switching to one sticker is already in the works.

I don't know when we will release our first BD+ title, but I don't think you will see one this year. No firmware update should be required for any of the current players.

What I meant is does SM2 in Europe have the same seemless branching as the American one none of the European specs say one way or another.

>The seemless branching will be available on all versions.

Will it be region free in the US?
>SM1, SM2 yes, SM3 no.

Alright. Sounds good then I guess. I look forward to shorter (and less annoying) time frames between opening my Blurays for the first time and first inserting them into my player.

I can understand Fox's concern, but are they not paranoid to the extreme?
Why does this piracy issue not as important to the other Studios? and would it not be to expensive and time consuming to copy HD discs to make it worthwhile?

The latest Sony's I've purchased came with one sticker. Maybe that one just got through the cellophane cracks.

Not with Microsoft trying convince everyone that low bit-rate VC-1 and lossy audio is the sensible HD experience.

Studios by pushing the Blu-ray bit-rates perhaps provide at least a temporary practical defense against copying: The encodings are just too darn big to be dealt with off a BD-50.

And I hope that if you do find out....you don’t reveal anything that would breach any confidences of trust with Fox personnel. The last thing I want to happen is bad blood between BD supporting studios !

Let me find out what I can find out (if anything) and get clearance as to what is an acceptable *leak*.

My friend, I think you already stick your neck out far enough just with Sony marketing people with title information.

^^^ Does Fox really want the Blu-ray faithful left worried and wondering about Fox support for the format?

We're not asking for specific titles, just some definitive insider statement that Fox IS serious about Blu-ray and some notion of a timeframe for them releasing titles again.

At this point there are people who are unsure of Blu-ray because Fox doesn't seem to be sufficiently publically sure of it.

Gary

I second this, and have asked as much in the past. Really think Fox needs to make some sort of statement at this point. Something along the lines of:
"We at Fox are committed to the HD experience of our customers. To that extent, we expect to release titles again exclusively on Blu-Ray disc in [insert a quarter and year here].

We are also committed to preserving our content, and as such, we ask for patience as copyright protection technologies evolve [or insert whatever the issue is here]. Work is ongoing, and completed in some instances, at Fox on the previously announced BD titles, in addition to many more unannounced titles.

We at Fox thank you, our customers, for support of the Blu-Ray format and understand and appreciate your patience and understanding on this matter."

That all that is really needed (or maybe just a "controlled leak" from Penton Man ). I think Fox looks rather foolish at this point given all of their "chest pounding" at CES. They need to have some sort of "customer relations" if they are going to be a "mouthpiece" of the format. Otherwise, they're more like the little annoying pretty boy who instigates the fight and then runs behind the big guys to protect his @ss once the punches start flying...

Fox should be a HUGE asset to the BDA, not a liability.

I agree. paidgeek, do you think you could do anything to nudge Fox into making a public statement? They've been quiet for a long time.

I VERY much agree, enough is enough, and the HD-DUD fanboys keeping bringing up the fact that Fox has abandon BLU-RAY. No word from Fox and fanboy insults are becoming more then annoying.
