I’m certain The Lion King will be their Spring 2019 release to coincide with the remake. Or The Little Mermaid in Spring and both TLKs released in Fall (if Disney are still doing 2 signatures per year, I lost the plot a bit with that one).

Wreck-it Ralph is being released in November, though we don’t have a date here as Disney UK seem to be a 4K-phobe unless it’s Marvel or Lucas.

I won’t be buying any of these. I love the films, but it cost me a mini fortune getting the best edition of the original releases. 4K is too minimal of an upgrade for me. And, yes, I have the technology for it before anyone goes off on one.

I'll employ my standard 4K approach:

1 - is it a favourite?
2 - was the blu ray/transfer botched?

If the answers fall the right way then I may pick up, but I expect this to be only a handful. Although Mermaid and Ralph will both qualify.

No word on Mary Poppins 4K release? Seems like a no brainer with the high-profile sequel hitting at Christmas...

Where's The Black Hole? How about putting out stuff that isn't even on blu-ray first, before releasing these titles again?

I already have The Little Mermaid and The Lion King in 3D, and they look fantastic. I'll be sticking to those.

I do didn't do a single 2d animated classic BD due to their meddling.
I don't see it changing for 4k as the grain would be miles worse for some of them.

Number 2 is the big one. If they can remaster some of their duds then they'll be worth looking at.

'The Lion King' is one of my favourite animated movies of all time (up there with other classics like 'Finding Nemo', 'Frozen', 'The Prince of Egypt' and 'The Secret of NIMH') and when/if it is released on 4K I will certainly add it to my 4K-collection.

Yeah, that's a fair assumption. Having never owned it on blu ray I'm resisting picking it up - the last time I watched it was in HD on TV and I thought the image looked pretty harsh, but I imagine that had a lot to do with the broadcast compression etc where everything looked scrubbed of detail. It's a title I'd be happy to wait for 4k.

I'll consider buying Little Mermaid or Cinderella as my first UHD titles, though Cinderella is going to depend on how it looks. Cinderella possibly just as a Signature title if it's remastered (I don't even have a 4K setup yet and I'm not that big of a fan of this one to buy it for the 4th time).

I'm just curious with 'The Incredibles' and 'Wreck it Ralph' having new Atmos mixes (yeah, yeah ... grumble if you must) if every thing post 1988 (Little Mermaid) will get a remix ??

According to IMDB The Little Mermaid has a Dolby Atmos track already from the re-release back in 2013. Whether or not that is true we may never know. From what little information I've gathered on The Lion King, it seems like it may be released on 4K with the same 7.1 track as the previous Blu-ray releases. I'm one of the few who would love to hear all of these films in Dolby Atmos but at the same time the restored original track should be included for purists.

I hope Disney will do some Touchstone stuff as well. Perfect opportunity right now to do 4ks for Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, & The Village with Glass coming in January. Especially since they're helping distribute Glass.

I'm not sure what the hold up is on the announcement for this

Black Hole was just confirmed as a standard bluray DMC release
