He doesn't give a rats behind about what the studio do with the soundtrack. All he cares about is the money. Money talks and bulls**t walks!

Also in this case, while the original 2.0 is lossy it is 768kbps, which is a very low compression rate (3:1) and thus probably sounds the same as lossless anyway.
Thanks! Geez, I remember that fiasco now with the Moustapha Akkad credit. I do have the replacement disc because I remember sending out for it because of the Moustapha Akkad credit. I didn't know it also improved the audio, which is why I was confused if I had the right disc.

What did that MCA credit look like? I don't have the Universal disc, but I was extremely puzzled originally where Universal dug that up and why it was there in the first place? Every release I've seen of Halloween 2 had the Moustapha Akkad credit. Does anyone know?

Which brings us full circle: As Dr West said, Carpentar probably isn't aware of the issue.

screw all this... just ordered it. I want to see HALLOWEEN in 4k and from what I can tell so far... it's going to look great.

The audio issue is minor... the examples of imperfections so far are minimal and not enough to ruin the experience for me at all.

This movie has been released so many times, and has had so many variances from the original version I wouldn't even know what's "normal" anymore....

When companies like Shout Factory start doing 4K releases of classic/independent films down the road, I can see a 4K Halloween Boxset released. Pretty much like the Blu box. That would be sweet. Probably the only way we'll get the real Mono soundtrack. Haha

If he was aware of this matter, there's nothing he can do about it. What do you think he'll do - ask for a recall? well that's not going to happen because, he'll be losing money... As far as Halloween is concern, John Carpenter is through. Halloween has been released on DVD and Blu-ray numerous of times, and he's getting royalties from each and every unit that's sold worldwide, and that's all he cares about.

As he probably isn't even aware of the issue, I haven't bothered imagining what he'd do if he found out.

btw a recall wouldn't cost Carpenter money, it would cost the label money

John will be losing money if there was a recall because, the copies will be shipped back to the manufacturer, and not be able to be sold, until they be reissued. Since there is not a major A/V defect, a recall is out of the question.

As for not caring, carpenter and cundy both approved the transfer and the hdr grade.

Yep. he's definitely through with Halloween.

Nobody spoke about a recall until you brought it up. we've been hoping for replacement discs.

For the UHD and new BD, yes. But the original BD and all the previous DVDs had the goofy '98 remix.

Why would Lionsgate issue replacement discs just to add a decades old audio track in an audio format that has been outdated for decades and is in extremely small demand? Especially when the UHD has a perfectly capable 7.1 track. The 7.1 track is the one they want people to use and enjoy. That's why it's the default and it being the default means the majority of viewers will be using that one and wont stop to consider or care about any other "lesser" audio options.

I'd like to have the mono track, too, but let's not act as if there is some huge demand for it. We and others like us on this forum are a minority of people that dont reflect the general buyer and general movie viewer. We are wanting something with very niche appeal. It's always a priviledge to get an original audio track, but it's not something studios owe us.

Recalls and replacement programs are intended to fix broken releases. Releases that dont function properly due to one reason or another. Or to fix a disc that was missing an advertised feature. The lack of an old mono track doesnt break the disc or cause any functional problems or afaik constitute false advertisement. So it's pointless to even hope for or expect a replacement program.

The packaging clearly states that it includes the mono track. Having the track be just a mixdown is false advertising.

After all the emails and free discs from Hell or High Water and now this, Lionsgate will probably just give up on making 4k discs.

The packaging just says "English Mono - Dolby Digital". That doesn't preclude it being a mixdown, unfortunately.
