In regards to these characters, approach it like Fox did with the casting of Domino in Deadpool 2. The part went to a black actress but the actress who won the part auditioned against the likes of Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lizzy Caplan, Mackenzie Davis, Kerry Washington, Sophia Boutella, actresses of varying races, so either way it goes to the best actress, regardless of race.

I'm okay with them going after black characters for non-black parts, or any race but it should feel organic, like the casting of Perry White or pick an actor charming and talented enough that you don't care like Sam Jackson as Nick Fury.

Deadline said Sofia Boutella is in the mix for Huntress. All I've wanted since I saw Atomic Blonde is Sofia Boutella in a DC film.

Would totally love MEW in a that role as well

From Mark Hughes tweet, they are trying to retroactively correct something, that DC should have done a long time ago. It will only be an issue if they have to reboot and then a new director give Canary a classic look.

Looking back on it, five movies in, Suicide Squad had a black and Latino member, a black Justice League member, a Hawaiian played Aquaman instead of the typical blonde one, a Native-American main character in Wonder Woman, Iris is black in the upcoming Flash movie, Perry White was black and now Black Canary. With Aquaman coming up they have Black Manta as a villain, Suicide Squad before had Amanda Waller.

They haven't really been absent of non-white characters thus far. 7 non-white main characters in 5 movies so far. Not saying it couldn't be better but its not bad either.

I used to read BoP religiously, but it's also been a very long time. I don't remember anything about Canary's character where she (or anyone else) made some point of her ethnic background.

But like I said, it was a long time ago; so I may have just forgotten.

I was talking about the comics not the movies. A lot of those are retroactive changes. Of all the ones you mentioned two are black women, only one being so in the comics.

Birds of Prey Release Date Set for February 2020
By Kylie Hemmert - September 24, 2018

Birds of Prey release date set for February 2020

Margot Robbie’s female superhero untitled Birds of Prey movie directed by Cathy Yen will be released by Warner Bros on February 7, 2020, the studio announced, with plans to also release the movie in IMAX. It was recently announced that several high profile actresses have been auditioning for key roles, with the Black Canary and Huntress currently up for grabs.

The Birds of Prey project was initially announced ahead of the release of Suicide Squad in summer 2016, with Warner Bros. developing the film with Robbie’s Harley Quinn as the villain and featuring a number of female DC characters, with the likes of Batgirl and the Birds of Prey reportedly also in the mix for the film. The script was penned by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee), who was recently announced to take over scripting duties on DC’s Batgirl solo movie after Joss Whedon’s departure.

Robbie herself was the springboard for the project, having fallen for the pantheon of DC’s female characters in her extensive research for the role of Harley Quinn. The Birds of Prey project will now apparently take priority as the next film to feature the popular Quinn character, with production expected to begin by the end of 2018 or early 2019. A Suicide Squad sequel to be directed by Gavin O’Connor is also in active development, but Glenn Ficarra and John Requa’s Harley Quinn Vs The Joker romance movie and David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens now appear to be on the backburner.

Robbie will head to Birds of Prey right after completing work on Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. She will produce via her LuckyChap banner alongside Sue Kroll of Kroll & Co Entertainment and Bryan Unkeless of Clubhouse Pictures.

The Birds of Prey are a mostly female superhero team whose ranks in the DC source material has included Oracle/Batgirl, Black Canary, Huntress, Catwoman, Hawkgirl, Power Girl, Poison Ivy, Vixen, and Katana (Karen Fukuhara), who appeared opposite Harley in Suicide Squad. A short-lived live action TV series titled Birds of Prey aired on The WB from 2002-to-2003 for 13 episodes, and starred Ashley Scott as Huntress, Dina Meyer as Barbara Gordon/Oracle, Ian Abercrombie as Alfred Pennyworth and Mia Sara as Harley Quinn.

In terms of following up on Suicide Squad, this is probably the wisest option to go with. Take the one aspect that most people agree worked and begin to spin something around that whilst distancing themselves away from it. Heck if this seems promising they maybe able to wrangle Leto back *shudders* and work back towards tying things back together. I’m just wondering how long this’ll keep chunderring forward until they realise they’re unable to build towards something after they screwed the pooch on Justice Leauge.

Said this in another thread, they are still looking to cast Canary and Huntress, however they want to start filming for January. Depending on the significance of their roles, which I would assume should be a lot, that's not a lot of time to get yourself into physical and stunt shape for 2 characters who are known to be great hand to hand combatants.

As a point of reference, Gadot and Larson trained for 6 to 9 months respectively to get in shape for their roles.

Harley Quinn has found her girl gang.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell are joining Margot Robbie in Birds of Prey, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The DC film will open Feb. 7, 2020, and sees Robbie reprise her Suicide Squad role as Harley Quinn. Cathy Yan is directing.

More to come.

I’m seeing Ewan McGregor’s name being tossed around for Black Mask which would be kind of funny.

When we tought they had run out of ideas to put people away from more DCU movies they came up with this Oceans Eight sequel. Its astonishing for the lack of words.

Tbh when i first saw the title i thought it would be based on this:
