You do realise that the content of the UK\Euro release is not the same as the US release? It's not just the packaging that's different, the disc content is also different.

What is different about the content? I am leaning towards picking up the UK version because as fancy as the US box set may be, it simply isn't shelf friendly. I just put it on Ebay.

From what I was reading on Amazon.co.uk it appears one of the main differences is the US release contains an extended "battle scene", here's what they wrote:

"So, let's compare the two and see what's missing...

Deluxe packaging (featuring an embossed spaceship).
A 200 page hardback book (Featuring previously unseen images).
The option to view an extended version of 'Battle'.

This UK version gives you the five discs in the cheapest-option-available packaging. Factor in that this stripped-bare UK version retails for significantly more than the USA set and you too may start to wonder... why? You could write to the makers but they won't reply. "

i know you can find the individual films online sometimes and purchase seprately, I however was unaware of this and bought that monster of a box set and it burns my hide...i couldnt stand those age stickers/ markings on the side though, so thise to would be a choice i couldn't make either.

I dislike the markings on the UK editions but I prefer a shelf-friendly keepcase. As pretty as the U.S. box set of Planet of the Apes may be, I have grown to hate those rubber disc hubs and the book is unlikely to ever be opened again. So, I want a nice package that takes up minimum space since my collection has already ballooned to 600 discs.

Casablanca is one of my favorite films but I will not make a purchase until I can buy it without all the silly crap in that bloated box set. I am all about the films. You can keep all the other "stuff." I've tried hunting down custom inserts but being incredibly obsessive, I prefer original packaging. I am very pleased with my region free "Omen Trilogy" from the U.K. and I am glad that The Planet of the Apes Collection is in a similar multi-disc keepcase.

Rantlers, can you email me or post after your copy arrives from the UK? I am still a bit nervous about picking it up until I can get confirmation that the UK set is indeed region-free. The package markings on Blu-ray discs have proven to be inaccurate quite a lot.

No problem. In fact, I just got the e-mail from Amazon UK that it has shipped and amazingly I've received my packages from there in only a few days. Guess that's one advantage of living on the east coast...

I'm pleased you're happy with your UK version.

To me though, The UK BD of the Omen is yet another butchered release by Fox UK, missing a whole raft of extras and features.

A classic film, again neutered by Fox on Blu-ray in Europe so stupid, greedy and lazy Fox UK/Europe can include three million extra foreign language dubs on the release.

Why the greedy bastards at Fox don't just create two or three identical masters for worldwide release, with only the language options differing between them I'll never likely know! HD is a worldwide standard after all and other studios already do this!

I know, extras are never a concern for me, I rarely ever watch them. For me its just about AQ/PQ, and in this case, shelf space...

The Euro set doesn't have the original mono tracks (important for completists) and according to a Dutch review I saw it is yet another European Fox title that has lossy DTS HD HR English audio rather than the lossless DTS HD MA available on the US release.

This extends to the isolated scores which are only encoded in bog standard lossy DTS at 754 kbps, whereas the US release features DTS HD MA encodes for the isolated scores!!

Also the Euro version of Battle (the final film) doesn't give you the option to watch the theatrical or extended version, only the theatrical I believe, with an option to watch the extended scenes separatley.

These are only a few differences that I'm aware of. There's very little solid info about this UK Blu-ray release, no reviews in native English that I can find. Myself and others would be extremely grateful if you did a mini review when you get your set!

Click here for an auto-translated version of the Dutch review if you like.

Hey guys! My copy just got here today and, as a matter of fact, I have the 1st movie playing on my TV as I type this. So, interestingly, it appears the Dutch release is NOT identical to the UK release as all 5 movies have DTS-HD MASTER AUDIO, not high resolution audio tracks. As an audiophile, this was huge for me! It also includes D-Box support for those lucky enough to take advantage of that feature.

I'm not sure of the complete listing of extras as there is NO insert included. As for the Blu-Ray case, there is a nice slip cover and the case itself is IDENTICAL in size to the original 5-disc Blade Runner set. I've attached some pictures for reference.

That's just a quick overview, I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you guys might have!

Is it true the discs only have English subtitles and nothing more?

That was a quick delivery!!

Your BD player is deffo reporting DTS HD MA English audio!? You're not just going by what Fox has printed on the case?

Thank you for offering to answer questions! I'm sure many of us are curious to know the differences between the Dutch, UK and US versions and are grateful for your help! Here are a load of quessies about the UK set :

1. Does the UK set include the original English mono audio for all the movies like the US Set?

2. Does the UK set have isolated scores for all the films encoded in DTS HD MA like the US set? The Dutch set has isolated scores encoded in standard DTS (754kbps) only!

3. What audio languages and subs are there on the UK set for each film?

4. Does the UK release include all the picture galleries for the last four films that are on the US release? Battle in the US for example includes a "Future News Gallery", "Interactive Pressbook Gallery", "Advertising Gallery" and "Lobby Cards Gallery"? The Dutch release is missing some of the picture galleries from Beneath, Conquest and Battle compared to the US set.

5. Does the UK set include both cuts of the film for Conquest and Battle? The Dutch version doesn't include both cuts for Battle, only the theatrical cut and an option to view extended scenes.

6. Does the UK set come with any booklet at all?

7. Is there any chance you could take some pix of the menus on the UK discs?

Thanks again for your help!

Yup. The box says DTS-HD MA, the disc says DTS-HD MA, the menu option on the BD says "English 5.1 DTS-HD MA", and the PS3 is reporting DTS-HD MA while the movie is playing. That being said, is there any other way to confirm? Serious question! I'm intrigued as to why some people were reporting it as DTS-HD HR or if they were just getting it mixed up with the Dutch release.

No, I did not see the option for English mono audio tracks under the audio options.

Nope, nothing at all, just a slipcover for the case.

I'll get back to your other questions tonight when I get home from work. Thanks!
