Now all three films are for the first time elaborately restored in 4K in unprecedented image quality - of course uncut ! With this trilogy Sylvester Stallone wrote in the 80's as a merciless fighting machine John Rambo film history and became the iconic cult figure of a whole generation - perfect to prepare for the upcoming fifth part and a must for every RAMBO fan and film collector!


STUDIOCANAL presents the elaborately restored versions of RAMBO I - III from the 08th of November 2018 as DVD, Blu-rayy and 4K UHD - both as a single title, as well as a trilogy with exclusive new artwork by designer Adrian Keindorf.
In addition to the standard products, all three films will be released on Blu-ray in a Limited SteelBook edition as well as on 4K UHD and Blu-ray in a Limited SteelBook Trilogy edition with artwork by illustrator Jan Feindt, All products include extensive, partly unpublished bonus material and a newly produced 50 minutes featurette "Rambo and the 80s" exclusively for this edition, in which RAMBO inventor and author David Morrell, film journalists and critics deal with the phenomenon "Rambo" and review the genesis of the cult serie

The RAMBO films were scanned from the original Negative in 4K and 16 bit resolution at Technicolor Hollywood, at Eclair Paris was then an extensive restoration under a complete 4K workflow with respective Color Grading for DCP, HDR and TV SDR based on the uncompressed source , In order to preserve the original dynamics of the original, each image was edited and no automatic filters were used during the restoration - a workflow that meets the standards of a high-quality modern blockbuster post-production!

I dig the trilogy steelbook, and barring a close up showing horrors, the keep case art.
But those 1-3 steels are craptacular

I mean in I believe most peoples eyes the two best are 1 and 4. And in my personal opinion I'd put 4 above 1 in terms of enjoyment, times rewatched (and even though First Blood has a 26 year head start, 4 still has more viewings in my 49 years...

Well, these are all coming on the heels of Studio Canal's international releases (as they have rights elsewhere), who have been killing it with 4K restorations as of late. I'm assuming Lionsgate is utilizing their remasters of 1-3, to bring them to the U.S.

Sony has the international rights to 4 though (If I'm remembering correctly), so that could explain why there's no movement on that installment. Although, Lionsgate has been churning our 4K catalog titles pretty consistantly, there's no guarantee that they'll bring this one out right away. If they don't release it to tie in with the first three, my best guess, is that they'll finally release it on 4K when the 5th Rambo is finished, to coincided with that film's release.

The protagonist is named after an apple, the apple is named after my ancestor Peter Gunnarsson Rambo, my ancestor is named after a mountain in Sweden, the mountain is named after uhh I have no idea.

I wanted to get the BD boxset so now I'm thrown off, not sure which I'll get. No rush.

Studio Canal appear to be ponying up the costs of the remastered trilogy, and they don't have any rights whatsoever regarding part 4. Possibly some weird stipulation, that Lionsgate can't release part 4 alongside these.
