I was hoping the UHD PQ would be an improvement compared to the theater, but it wasn't. The dark and color-desaturated look of the movie didn't suit the mostly fun action/adventure subject matter. This is certainly something I wasn't expecting from Ron Howard. This will most likely be a one-time view and set on the shelf disc.

As a user of Redbox I'm all in favor of them gaining access of BD's so I can rent them for $2 a night. Shame that as a result some people end up finding it harder to grab a physical copy but I guess that's just more incentive to pre-order or better yet upgrade to 4K UHD.

Disney could make all this moot by just selling the discs to them at a reasonable rate.

But Ron had to match the look the cinematographer had already developed with the previous directors. The look of the movie is down to Bradford Young not Ron Howard.

Since the movie was reportedly 70%-80% shot or re-shot by Howard, it would not have been impossible for him to have imposed certain changes. If he wanted to.

I have a feeling those involved with the making of the movie would know more about it than you. There was obviously a reason why they stuck the previously established look. Howard even says in the extras he chose to embrace Bradford's visual style when he came on board.

So it was a choice. In other words, he could have chose not to.

Yeah I guess he could have chosen not to and then you would end up with a movie with 30% of it looking completely different to the other 70%, yeah that would have been consistent. The point is Ron had to go with what had previously been shot, I can't believe this requires so much explanation lol.

Have you seen Rush? It has a similar color palette, but yes I agree Solo did seem very dark in the beginning. The scenes towards the end however look fantastic & so dod the train sequence. It’s a good looking film.

I like the movie, but I agree with this 100%. It was a colossal misreading of the script to think this should look darker than the much more serious Rogue One (which looked perfect).

I saw it twice in theater. First time Dolby, second time standard. The Dolby was noticeably better, but still too bland, dark, and muddy.

Just got finish watching and I must say. I didn't have ANY problem with the AQ. It loud from the start. I listened to other people saying it was low. So, I turned it up to -26 and had to QUICKLY turn it down. WTH, it was that LOUD.

Maybe it must be the way I have my system set up. But, after I turned it down to my normal level of -30. It sounded awesome

PQ was spot on as well

Don't know what Disney did but they should have started this from the beginning

It's a shame that the movie sounded better in my house
Like always Lol
This should be in the 4k section, oops!!!!!

Probably about 10 years before A New Hope.

Solo deserved more success than it got. Just unfortunate that bad marketing and release decisions hindered the film's box office potential. I suppose TLJ's divisive response had a hand, which i dunno why one would connect that film with Solo considering different filmmakers, and different trains of continuity. It was a fun sci-fi/western/heist movie with the Star Wars universe as the playground.

After Revenge of the Sith, before Rogue One (or Rebels, if you're into that).

It starts 13 years before ANH and ends 10 years before ANH.

Something I haven’t seen mentioned much which I find cool is that the first section of Solo happens right around about the same time the opening section of Rogue One happens. Then the majority of Rogue One obviously happens much later than most of Solo. So this means technically speaking the order goes like this:

19BBY Revenge of the Sith
13BBY Solo/Rogue One (prologue scenes)
10BBY most of Solo
0BBY most of Rogue One
0BBY A New Hope

I just finished reading the novel for Solo, in the epilogue there is conversation with Saw and the Enfys people, Jyn Erso was present at 11 years old.
