Anyone have any strong thoughts, positive or negative, about the original Child's Play movie?

...I almost bought a copy of the Scream Factory release today.

*Dead Snow (2009) Those pesky Nazis are at it again! A group of medical students decide to on a ski vacation in the Norwegian Alps. The cabin they’re staying in contains a loot belonging to the German Einsatzgruppen, which was taken from them by one of their fellow colleagues who has already meet their demise, and those Nazis aren’t too pleased. Its good flick. It has some great bits of gore and special effects, but it just feels a bit too cheesy at times.

The Hills Have Eyes (1977) A family traveling to California has their car break down on the remote southwestern desert. Unbeknownst to them, a family of marauding inbred cannibals are watching their every move and soon begin to terrorize them. This was my second time ever watching this film even though I’ve owned the dvd for several years. Its an absolute raw, visceral, and primal film. Will definitely upgrade to Arrow’s blu-ray.

Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) This year I decided to skip the first film since its my most watched of the bunch. The sequel picks up five years after the first film and Alice, the lone survivor of the first film is killed off two months after the events of the last film, which is a shame because I liked her character. Five years later, A new camp is preparing to open not too far from Camp Crystal Lake and the killings begin once again. In many ways the sequel is a rehash of the first film, but its an enjoyable sequel that still manages to capture the feel of the previous film perfectly.

It's a very good thriller, made before the series devolved into self-aware mockery. Some of the practical effects might seem dated by today's standards, however.

Child's Play is a solid thriller that is tongue-in-cheek. I like it a lot. The Evil Dead remake consists of loud noises, yelling, lots of f-bombs and gallons of gore. If I had seen it when I was 13, I would have loved it.

Direct sequel to Son Of Frankenstein this time with Lon Chaney Jr. playing the monster and Bela Lugosi returning as Igor. Lacking the spectacle of it's predecessor but still a solid entry in the series. Universal's blu ray looks terrific!

10/1 - Piranha

10/2 - A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 The Dream Master

Hadn't seen it in many years. Fun revisiting it. I can't binge watch this series as they get tediously repetitive, which is why I watched The Dream Master as I watched The Dream Warriors last October. That's a good enough amount of time to cleanse my pallet. Probably won't watch The Dream Child until next October.

Yeah. It's just uninspired and uninteresting.

alright. grabbed a few today.

nameless nonsense - 0/5
I'm not even going to name this. that's how bad it was. something that said it had zombies, but these are the worst looking zombies. it didn't even look or feel like an actual movie. so yeah. I have already talked too much.

splatter university - .5/5
eesh. this must have just been the time when they wanted to take advantage of slashers. this is really poorly constructed, even by slasher standards. it's like prom night IV, but with less production value and less acting. it's worse, because there is one actress who is trying.

haunters - 3/5
this is that documentary on the new haunts and some of the people who are involved. it is interesting. I would never go to one of these haunts though.

2. PHANTASM
Have I ever told you that I love Phantasm? Well... I love Phantasm! Funeral homes, a giant metal ball with blades and saws flying at you, an army of undead dwarves and of course The Tall Man who is the most underrated horror movie villain of all time. I can't imagine Halloween without this and the sequel, both of which I will check out at least one more time this month.

3. PHANTASM 2
I might be a little more familiar with the sequel as it seemed to play on weekend tv frequently as I was growing up. After a brief continuation of the original, we go forward a few years and find Reggie and Mike still chasing The Tall Man. I think this may have a little more action than the original and I love the ending.
[Show spoiler]It's a dream. It's only a dream. … No, it's not!
This is a nice sequel to go along with the original but the series takes a step down after this installment.

Cabin in the Woods (2012) (HDR-Dolby Vision)
If ever there was a film that was aware of itself, this one is it. Highly self-referential and entertaining, I thought it was extremely original and well-written. Watching it in Dolby Vision is just the cherry on top.

Train To Busan (2016) (Netflix)
I tend to be wary of zombie films at this point, but this came as a nice surprise. A highly entertaining and well-written film, Train to Busan does adhere to many zombie tropes, but does not sacrifice its underlying story for blood and gore, although there is much of of that.

2. The Gorgon

Over the past several years, there have been seven murders in the village of Vandorf where the victims have been turned to stone. Rather than try to uncover the murders, the villagers have shunned the idea that the murders are supernatural, and they run out any outsider who tries to investigate. After a pregnant woman is turned to stone and her lover commits suicide, the villagers use his death to blame him for her murder. When his father comes to town to find answers, he too falls victim, but not before he can send a letter to his other son, telling him about the legend of the Gorgon -- a mythical creature he believes haunts Vandorf Castle and turns its victims to stone during the full moon.

Directed by Terence Fisher and starring Peter Cushing and Cristopher Lee, The Gorgon is a Hammer tale full of moody atmosphere and carried by two of Hammer Horror's most familiar faces: Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. It's interesting that Christopher Lee received top billing for this movie, because other than a brief scene early on, he doesn't appear until 50 minutes into the movie. But once he arrives, his character takes the spotlight. Peter Cushing, on the other hand, is featured throughout and does a magnificent job as the movie's more human villain.

At first glance, the Gorgon plays out as a who-done-it monster movie, where you attempt to figure out who the Gorgon is, but the film never tries to make it a mystery. Instead, The Gorgon plays out as more of a tragedy between The Gorgon, the Heitz family, and Peter Cushing's character, Dr. Namaroff.

I have always been a fan of the classic Universal monster movies, but it wasn't until last Halloween that I watched my first two Hammer horror films: Horror of Dracula and Curse of Frankenstein. I thought that both were great, and I wanted to see more, but I hadn't until now. For this Halloween season, I have picked up a handful of Hammer releases that I plan to watch, including the Hammer Fear Warning box set from Indicator, which features a gorgeous transfer of The Gorgon. The Gorgin was my third Hammer Horror film to see, and I am eager to see more of these films.
