I have watched the video, and find that it looks completely different than that on my OLED. The title card of the 4K (on my Mac book) looks really bold and saturated to the point that "John Carpenter's" looks red while "Halloween" looks orange. That's not how it looks on my OLED. The colors are more pale and muted. The "John Carpenter's" looks the same shade of orange as the "Halloween" portion. I agree though, that the comparison video makes the 4K look much more vibrant than what I am seeing on my OLED.

That's how Halloween looks when the kids are teasing Tommy outside of the school. It's like watching through a filter that's designed to boost contrast, but stifles clarity in the process, due to darkening the picture. Maybe it looks less noticeable on a super bright LED, but on an OLED it is quite recognizable.
I didn't get a chance to compare to the 35th BD (maybe I will tonight), but I didn't see anything unusual looking at all on my end. It sounds to me it may depend on the tone mapping going on with a given display. I found whites balanced within the image and darks. When I first read your post about the darkness effect, I was thinking of the dark interior scenes which are obviously meant to be dark, but of course you're referring to something else.

Judging from your other comments regarding this, I can't help but wonder if it's some settings on your OLED and/or player causing it.

I think with HDR it's probably more critical than ever to try to be in the most accurate mode to give the tone mapping of your specific panel the best shot at delivering the intended picture.

Everyone saying they have issues are saying it's with an OLED.
What HDR format?

What is your problem? People are just trying to point out some relevant information which is the truth and you’re being ridiculous about it!

I kinda feel like every time anyone has issues with any transfer, it always seems to be on an OLED...

Same. And that's with an older B model with the "raised blacks" issue. Still no complaints, even when accounting for that fact.

For a laugh I dug out the old Anchor Bay THX DVD and the later Divimax DVD and compared the audio across them, the messed up thing - and why I'm not as bonkers about the original audio missing as I oughta be - is that there isn't an original audio track between them! In other words: had I ever even heard the original mono until I bought the Spanish Blu-ray just last year?

Even the "original theatrical mono" on the THX DVD is a downmix, with the other "2.0" track actually being a 4.0 L/R/SL/SR layout which is weird enough, and weirder still it has the proper stinger when Michael grabs Annie in the car but also has the added thunder during the drive to Smith's Grove. The 5.1 on the THX has the alternative stinger, as does the "original mono" track. So bizarre. On the Divimax DVD they didn't even try to pretend that they had the original mono, the only audio is "2.0 surround" and 5.1.
Which THX DVD do you have? The mono on my THX DVD sounds exactly like the original mono to me. Just popped it in and the stinger in Annie's car is the original mono stinger. Also, the 2.0 has the changed stinger just like the 5.1, not the proper one like you said. I wonder if there's a version of this DVD that somehow switched certain aspects of the mixes. Here's a picture of my THX DVD.

My 65” LG C7 (OLED) is Professionally calibrated. The text in the title cards is not a static color. Each fades in from from black to a darker, more reddish orange to a more natural orange and then back out to darker, more reddish orange again before disappearing into black.

Both “John Carpenter’s” and “HALLOWEEN” behave exactly the same way. “John Carpenter’s” fades in first...holds at the natural orange color while “HALLOWEEN” fades in. Then “John Carpenter’s” fades out from the natural orange, to the darker/more reddish orange and then to black. Finally, the same thing happens with the “HALLOWEEN” text. The colors are rich and vibrant.

I have that DVD too and pretty sure it’s the authentic original mono. I know off hand the extra thunder sounds are not there and the sound of Michael punching through the closet door is different to the surround mix.

THAT'S the THX DVD version I own...

Excellent Dolby 5.1 remix, IMO.

Yeah. I also have the Divimax 2-disc DVD set and I can confirm no original mono on it. I remember when I first watched it I knew right away there was added thunder and rain sounds without ever having thought about changed sound effects or different mixes before. It just stood out to me as sounding odd for some reason.

It's funny...I, too, always wondered what the hell Laurie says at the end with regard to "What's the Boogyman?" or "Was That the Boogyman?" or...

And it always made me scratch my head due to Loomis' response of "As a Matter of Fact...it Was."

Just finished watching this and i have some mixed feelings about it. The overall presentation was nice with good clarity and detail, colors were also better but what i really missed was better black levels. But don`t get me wrong, i am not saying black levels were bad. At some occasions, it looked really good but there were also occasions with more greyish blacks which was disappointing.

But like i said, the overall PQ is really good and this is the best Halloween has ever looked on any format IMO and i am happy with the upgrade from the standard blu. I just wished they could have squeezed out that last bit of black levels and this would have been a superior release.

I used to have the 2-disc THX Limited Edition, Disc 1 of which was (I believe) the same disc as what you have pictured, and I sure thought I remembered the noticeable differences between the mono and the 5.1.

Yes, disc one of that two-disc limited edition is actually the one-disc we're talking about (with Michael's mask featured and no raised relief-type packaging or anything).
