70's actually had a handfull of good movies nominated with the Godfather being the best.

Second. Godfather II, Deer Hunter, French Connection, One flew Over the Cukoo's Nest, Rocky, Sting, and French Connection.

Back when they actually voted for good movies and not base it on good acting or original screenplay.

Godfather, first one..... although I gotta say.... the 70's were a GREAT decade for films despite the bad rap they get by many for bad acting/effects etc....

I voted Rocky because I absolutely love the movie and have seen it countless times. It never grows old and there are so many great scenes.

I don't like Godfather I and II as much as others seem to. I think they are good movies, but not the best movies ever made like many people seem to think.

Dang I have never heard bad acting!

the acting seems to be far better then than a lot of films now

Without a good screenplay and good performances... how can one still be a "good" or "great" movie?

Agreed, maybe not the hardest but certainly one of the more difficult.

This is, by far, the decade with the greatest choices of films. You have a great war film, a crime action/drama, a mobster family and their trials and tribulations, a man overcoming his obstacles to make it to the big time, a custody battle...it was so hard to pick!!

But I had to go with The Godfather, with Kramer vs. Kramer in a close second

I'm not saying that it is not important, I'm saying that most movies that get nominated today either have one or the other, but never both.

A lot of Great Film and a lot of Great acting performances in the seventies. Tough call. There were great performances by Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider in the French Connection, Rocky, and the 1st Best Performance by an actor Oscar by Dustin Hoffman (my favorite living actor) in Kramer Vs. Kramer. But, I would have to say the best, but possibly not my favorite from the 70's was The Godfather.

Not to mention Chinatown which lost to The Godfather Part II.
