Default Sweet @$$ speakers OR $h!t ton of blu rays?

One thing I have noticed since I joined the forums is the number of people that have a TON of blu rays. Like over 100, and all hooked up to a HTIB...

100 blu rays x $20 = $2000 !!!!!

That could surely buy you a 5.1 system that you could be proud of.

Anyone with me on this?

agreed.

it's just easy for people to spend $20 at a time. and before you know it, you're proud of what you've collected. i bet in hind sight it looks a lot different. i have to tell myself i have netflix so i don't buy any movies.

Agreed! It's far better to put that money towards speakers and then spend $15 a month on Netflix

What's funny is when people with those many Blu's brag about it and when you ask them why they only have an HTIB system, they say they can't afford a better system in this economy.

A poll might be appropriate for this thread:

Option 1: Just Blus
Option 2: Just 5.1 Setup
Option 3: Both

Thumbs up

Agree 100%. I broke my addiction to buying blu rays to save up for my Rotel seperates ! Takes a while to get used to not buying all the new releases but in the end when you do put in a blu ray and let's face it we only watch one movie at a time.........the wait will be priceless !

I've been purchasing less, and actually using my DVD collection to "Feed the Monkey" on my back when Blockbuster doesn't send me disks fast enough

Some of us are not die-hard audiophiles, for which a 5.1 HTIB is good enough

For me personally, it's all about PQ and having a decent collection... I'm mostly deaf from too many concerts in my youth anyways

Clearly you haven't played some of my Blu-rays on good speakers. Otherwise you'd know the meaning of putting speakers to work.

Remember a good 2.1 system is always better then a mediocre 5.1

I understand your point... but at the same time I think it would suck to have an incredible system, and then no money left for media to play on it.

It think it's better to compromise on both, that way you have a decent system and some blu-rays too!

I hope I dont offend anyone, but I think its a waste of $ , to duy DVD/Blu ray,
IMO. What do you do after you watch the movie, put the DVD away & look at the box . There's not to many movies that I watch more than once or twice.

I've cut back my movie purchases considerably in order to buy what I currently have as well to save for more purchases, such as an
amp and the rest of my speakers for 5.1.

I share your point of view in a way. I only buy movies that i really like and know i will watch multiple times. I never buy a movie before seeing it first, and never buy movies that i find mediocre or average. It's about quality, not quantity.

I can see how some people would like to buy tons of movies though. Some people just like having large collections of things. If you have the disposable income to do it, then why not i guess.

No offense taken..... but for me, it's about the convenience of having the movie to play whenever I want. I certainly don't try to say "hey look at me... I bought all of these" it's certainly NOT about that.

Plus, I watch movies MULTIPLE times.
