This was great looking forward to more Halloween films if they are like this.

Anything else is just going to be whatever the individual theaters were paid to show. We got the above three along with:

Bohemian Rhapsody
Aquaman
Robin Hood
Mid 90s

I'm so sick of the trailers for Mid-90's, Aquaman and Robin Hood. Really hoping we don't get those at my theater 😅.

This was the first Halloween movie I have seen in it's entirety. I have seen bits and pieces of the others but never had an interest in them until I met my wife who loves scary movies.

There was a good turn out to this movie and we really enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting laughs for a horror movie but that kid the girl was babysitting was hilarious.

I give it a 4 out of 5 for blood, gore and comedy!
[Show spoiler]
So I talked to a friend last night and apparently some of the other Halloween movies are in different universes and not true sequels? Should I buy the digital copies on Vudu?

Are people getting Mortal Engines? Even in Dolby they didn't show it, most people (myself included) seem to be getting just Glass and Happy Death Day.

I know that Hollywood will never leave money on the table, but dear god I would love this to be the end of that story. At the very least take the franchise in a new direction (the world needs a followup to III, damnit!)

I would like it if we have another one in 20 years which ignores this one and picks up straight after the first with an 80 year old Curtis.

Saw it last night. It was alright, should’ve been better. Some stuff i liked and some i didn’t. Gave way too many homages to the other films. My big gripe was the comedy and stupid one liners that I felt was completely unnecessary and took away from the seriousness.

There was also a logo I don't recall seeing before for something called "LiveGrain" that according to the credits is responsible for the "Texture" (of the image?), whatever that means exactly. I assume this has something to do with replicating the look of celluloid for digitally-shot films, but maybe Universal need to take another crack at this one before the UHD Blu-ray release.
I also saw this in Dolby last night and the presentation was pretty nice and clear where I was, though I wasn't sure if it even got an actual Atmos mix.
But since Dolby showings are covered with my A-List, I gave it a show just in case. The sound was strong, though.

the granddaughter is at the dance. she can't get service. she tries to answer the phone but it cuts out. so then she looks for the boyfriend and then finds him cheating. or maybe she asks to see his phone or make a call and a sext from that girl shows up on the screen. and then she runs away and he waits before running after her and then he runs into michael. and maybe she settles down and then runs into his body.

you have more character time. you have a payoff. the character doesn't exist just to drive the plot forward. and now you've added an element to the story that makes the granddaughter experience some of the trauma that laurie did in the first movie. which could add to another payoff during the climax.

and this is something I came up with in like five seconds of really thinking about it. did no one come up with this during the production?

i know I'm very critical, but I wanted this to be more, and there is not reason why it shouldn't have been.
That's the only negative that I have with the movie overall. I felt like it could've been done better in order to move things forward.
[Show spoiler] The locker and restaurant scenes weren't bad. They had a kind of playfulness to them.

Thumbs up

Saw it last night with my wife. It was good!

WHAT I LIKED:
[Show spoiler]

-Jamie Lee Curtis’ performance was great.
-Laurie’s story of trauma. That scene where she walks out of the restaurant crying had me really feeling sorry for Laurie.
-John Carpenter’s score was excellent. Glad he did the music for this one.
-Michael’s mask looked the best since Halloween II (1981).
-The Shape. Like some have said, we haven’t seen this Michael Myers since John Carpenter’s original.
-Showing Michael unmasked but still keeping him mysterious.
-Creepy scenes! The scene of Laurie going through her house to find Michael had me on the edge.
-The male podcast reporter’s death scene at the gas station was more brutal than I thought! And Michael smiling through the restroom stall at the female reporter was creepy!
-The trap at the end by The Strode women.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
[Show spoiler]

-The cops and their sandwich conversation. Pointless, stupid and not funny.
-The doctor killing the sheriff. Just does not work.
-Not showing Michael burning at the end. I think it is implied more that Michael escaped than he died. We see him looking up at the women then the next shot almost looks like no one is in the trap room. This really needs to be the end. Everyone I’ve talked to, and seems like the majority online, hopes this is the end.

Still digesting it. Going to see it with a group of friends Tuesday night. It definitely does not top the 1978 original, but I still haven’t made up my mind whether I liked it more than Halloween II (1981). It is for sure better than 3-8 and both Zombie films IMO.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Thought it was pretty good with some genuine tension. Definitely my favorite of the sequels. First half has very generic horror setup but also has pretty good characterization and acting is solid across the board. I'm torn because there were waaaayyy too many identical beats to the original - I got the sense that this was some sort of ritual for Michael - but also some cool callbacks (
[Show spoiler]Laurie falling off the balcony, using the bedsheets to invoke Michael's presence without him even being there
). Third act kicks ass and felt to me like the entire reason they wrote the movie. Score was great.

[Show spoiler]- Good riddance to the self-serious podcasters. I was worried they were going to take up even more screen time. They were horrible and that opener fell so flat.
- As prepared as Laurie was supposed to be, the filmmakers push too far to manufacture tension. Why would she leave so many blind corners in her house with no internal security cameras? Why wouldn't she clear all rooms of anything human-shaped, particularly the shooting dummies? Why not stick around to make sure he burned?
- New Loomis twist was a bit much - though I did like that everyone in this movie had their own mental instability and it led to a pretty cool moment of the grandkid trapped in the back seat with Michael. Hawkins deserved better than that, though.
- Not sure how I felt about the earlier kills we don't see. I get the idea that whatever the audience imagines is worse than what they can show (plus budget), but I would have preferred at least more situations like where you see Michael in the background in the garage. Not just aftermath.

I really loved it.

On my first watch I'd give it a 4/5.

I loved all the homage to the other films, especially part 2 (81). I loved the way Myers moved and how the camera followed him. I really enjoyed how brutal he was. The mask was beautiful. There were a few twists i wasnt expecting but i thought they were cool. Also the score was ****ing rad

Not a spoiler. You’re supposed to go into this knowing that all of the sequels have been ignored and never happened. This is a direct sequel to the original and that’s it. There’s only two ‘cannon’ movies now. Halloween (1979) and Halloween (2018).

I loved it. I liked the twist a lot! Even though I saw it coming and when
[Show spoiler]he put on the mask
was when I just groaned and wanted it to go away, but that was short lived.

The framing of so many scenes was amazing. When the friend is
[Show spoiler]dead hanging on the fence
and the motions lights go on!! I almost cheered.

The ending was done so well. All
[Show spoiler]3 generations team up and I was waiting for Judy Greer's character to bust out her childhood training.
That was great.

The neighborhood walk through that had no cuts was fantastic. I couldn't wait for that scene and it did not disappoint.

That is all for now.

Except it did have one cut. After he grabbed the hammer and before he entered the first house. My only gripe with that part.

There's no way in hell Scream 4 (which was fun but nothing special) was better.

3.5/5 (not sure yet if it deserves a 3 or 4 for the poll)

I saw this at a midnight showing in Dolby. The classic score and sound effects were awesome in that format. The movie overall was very good, but not great. I wouldn't say it's better than any of the Laurie Strode sequels that we've had before. I prefer her character arc in H2O. The nods to the original film were really nice. I definitely don't consider this to be the "true sequel" to the first film. It's just a fun curiosity, that's it. Jamie Lee seemed like she was having good time.

My showing had the Pet Sematary trailer attached and it got a loud applause afterwards.
