Sorry I already took the plunge and opened mine. The issue with mine was the closing and lock groves inside didn't lineup when shrink wrap packaging was done.....that's what it looked like to me, so I decided to give it a go, opened it up and aligned the groves and closed it in place. seems like its ok now, but whenever someone opens the case they will have to align it again to close. That issue won't be going away. Not much you can do. And with this mainly being an online order can't return and swap out with a store. Burns me cause we as consumers are paying $50 for a SB, if this continues then I might have to end my SB purchases......its not worth it. I have already decided to only get Marvel/DC/Star Wars SB going forward.....all other releases will be standard OR the Target releases south of us.

That’s why I’ve resorted to ordering my steelbooks from the UK. Similar pricing anyways and often better in quality. Best Buy Canada has completely shit the bed for steelbook collectors.

Called BB for the SB issue. There is no replacement stock as there are 0 items on the website. If the item is sealed they would like you to return it for a full refund. But then you'll never have it. No bueno in my case.

I had to explain what the closure problem was and what exactly makes a SB special before they clued in that this is a Collector's item.

The second option was if it is opened, they will send you a return label since the store cannot accept an exchange return with no replacement stock. Again you will lose the item but would get a full refund. No bueno.

Third was a partial credit. They started at 10% so $4.49 but then rounded up to $10. So you have the item with a discount for the damage. I obviously chose this option as it was the only viable one left. I did mention the $12 price difference over normal 4K but didn't press for the extra $2.

Hope this helps! Phone call was over in less than 10 mins.

The one time I did not do a backup order always bites me. LOL

I wouldn't say that. Best Buy's stock has been mostly good except for this one title that seems to have a manufacturing defect.

I have switched to a lot of UK purchases, but not because of quality. It's because of the 3D.

However, if I have the chance to buy Canadian, I do, and not always out of national pride, either.

Canadian editions almost always include both DVD and digital copy, whereas UK editions have neither.

Not a big deal either way, but better than a kick in the pants.

For me it comes down to the fact that Best Buy Canada doesn’t always stock the steelbooks in store. Most of the times that they don’t, they don’t even announce that it is online only. Also, add to that the fact that I received every steelbook online order with damage in the past (about 7 or 8 times). If I can’t see it before buying and am not guaranteed to be able to go and exchange a damaged copy in-store where I can inspect the replacement, I’d rather take the chance and order from the UK where I’ve only received 1 damaged out of over 50 orders... and the damaged 1 was replaced quickly, without any flaws.

Even if Best Buy held back copies for damaged replacements, their packaging is terrible and is still too risky as to the possibility of said replacement being damaged as well.

As I said, they have seriously shit the bed when it comes to steelbook collecting. With a focus of product in-store in the past they had me hooked on shopping the Canadian market. Over the last 5 years it has become headache after headache after headache.

Best Buy has updated the previous listing with the standard edition picture. They have added a new listing for the steelbook which is $8 more:

Well, I don't have the bad experience that you have had with BB Canada.

They ship almost all of their SteelBooks in a box with air pillows. Certainly that's better than in a small box from Zavvi or Amazon.co.uk. Although I do agree that the UK shipments arrive in pretty good shape.

Boxes with air pillows account for the last 4 of the damaged steels that I mentioned. The thing bounces around like crazy in there. Edges and corners were all dinged to hell. 3 to 7 instantly visible damage marks. The box from Zavvi is better in my opinion. It has no room to garner enough momentum to get damaged inside the box. It may be susceptible to being placed under heavy objects and crushed/bent. However, small parcels almost always end up on small shelves or on top of piles during transit. Large boxes with no weight get tyrown around like crazy because they don’t feel like they have anything fragile inside.

What does this mean for people that pre-ordered the previous one, thinking its the SB at that price? do I have to cancel that now and re-order this one.

Ridiculous.....

thanks for the heads up

I don't follow this logic. I've received many packages and almost always damage is done both to the exterior box and the interior SteelBook.

Very rarely (if ever) have I received a damaged item inside when the box is in good shape outside. This is not counting spine slashes.

All boxes can be dropped. Both types of packaging are susceptible to damage because of that.

Like I said, a box with next to no weight is likely to get THROWN numerous times in the various handling stages. The steelbook bounces around like crazy inside. It’s the only thing that makes sense to me. Either that or Best Buy is knowingly shipping dented copies (which wouldn’t surprise me either). Either way, all I had been doing for the last 7 or 8 orders that I placed was wasting my time returning them and losing out on being able to get a copy of the steelbook that I wanted (at a reasonable non-Ebay price anyways). So, I said to hell with them and haven’t had any issues with getting a mint copy of all UK orders.
