If you're right (that this will be a 35mm/16mm composite) then this would be the first crack in WAC's policy of perfection on Blu-Ray or nothing at all. Which would be a good thing for tons of films whose extant elements preclude a "perfect" presentation.

Unless they go with the shorter version, in which case, nfm.

Well, I don't know if I'm right, I just know that's been the holdup for them not releasing it years ago. They specifically said the elements weren't good enough, so maybe they found something better.

At some point though, it's as good as it can be, I guess. Maybe the will include 2 cuts, the shorter from 35mm and the longer from 16mm. Curious to see.

Oh, holy shit.

Either they've found a pristine element of the longest cut, or this really is going to be a patchup of different elements.

If it's the latter, hopefully this means the "perfection or nothing at all" policy is no more, and they can tackle films with element problems on Blu. That would open the door to so many releases.

My guess is it's patched between 35mm and 16mm, or they would've made an announcement about it and included it in the press release. It looked rough on Laserdisc, but somewhat better on DVD, although even with the lower quality of DVD you could see the difference.

they may have made an exception to the rule for this. my guess is that it's getting the archieve release because it's patchwork. if they had found a pristine copy i'd bet it would be a regular release and they would be trumpeting that fact. people have been hounding them for this so they'll do the best they can.

And put a "reasonable cost" reason to finally do the 12 3D films of the '50's they're hoarding!!!
