I saw the film today. I went in with high expectations and came out a little dissappointed. It’s not horrible—on the contrary, it’s very creepy and carried a solid story—I just think its potential to be a really impressive comeback in the franchise was missed. There were things I enjoyed about it and things I didn’t. I have to admit, coming from someone like me who jumps easily during horror films, this one wasn’t as scary as I had expected (I only jumped once, which was a first for me, and it didn’t even involve a scene with Myers. ). Overall, I thought it was ok but it could’ve been so much better. I’m in the 3-star crowd on this one, but I’d watch it again.

I was really excited to see this, kept away from the last few trailers and avoided reviews in hopes of not spoiling the movie. I left the movie less than impressed and I wish I would’ve saved my money for a Redbox rental. The casting was less than inspiring, with Judy Greer being my least favorite adult role. All in all I left the movie underwhelmed as did 2 of the 3 people I went with.

[Show spoiler]The movie would’ve been so much better if all three of the women in the family didn’t survive and I thought it would’ve been great to have Laurie and Michael die together while trying to kill one another

I’d give it a 2.5/5 and I’ll round up to 3 for the poll.

Same. A whole row of middle school kids in front of me. I called an usher. I was tempted to yell at the parent chaperones.

Luckily it was my third time

Without the mask that looked like Nick Castle. When they showed his damaged eye and in other scenes you could barely get a glimpse of his mustache. I know what Courtney looks like and that did not look like him. Courtney is bald and has no stache and Castle has the hair line(balding in the middle) that we all saw. Bloody Disgusting even alluded to that Castle had more screen time because they said he did the head tilt for one scene after a kill. I guess we can always pause it when it comes out. I wanted to pause it in the theater, lol, and go back to make sure it was him. Im going to go back and read the Halloween articles again, because at first it was Nick Castle is back as the Shape, then we find out they got a stunt guy to do the heavy parts, then we are told Castle is barely in it, so who knows. But if that was him, without the mask, thats a good 20 min chunk of the film.

I just read their most recent article and you are indeed right. I blame the azzzzholesss over at Bloody Disgusting for all the misinformation. Im still going to pause those face shots when the bd comes out.

The film does a lot right, such as how it keeps Michael faceless and more of a presence than a person, and I quite liked the central idea of Laurie having gone fanatical with her experience. On the other hand I found myself frustrated that despite a couple new ideas they yet again have characters act against their best interest in flat out stupid ways. In the end I can't say it makes any further headway in being a truly worthy sequel, and is about on par (for different reasons) to Halloween 2 and Halloween H20.

So if the Silver Shamrock masks (the designs at least) are a thing, is it safe to assume that "Season of the Witch" could be canon too? Maybe another company bought the patents to the designs and kept manufacturing them.

As for the advertisement for the original film that Challis sees on the TV in the bar in that movie, it could have been for a TV movie made about the "Babysitter Murders" after all.
Season of the Witch is owned by Universal and Trick or Treat Studios has the rights to make the masks. They made Michael's mask for this movie and the Silver Shamrock masks.

By far the best sequel in the series, maybe even surpassing the original. I loved it. The story, music, humor, kills, suspense, everything just works beautifully. After the awful Zombie films, this was such a pleasant surprise.

So what did I take away from this movie? These days, it’s okay to graphically strangle little kids to death on screen. It’s also okay to have chubby toddlers use the F word 30+ times. But it’s no longer okay to show boobs! Boobs on screen are no longer acceptable. Boobphobia. This is the society we live in right now. I miss the 80s.

I did give this movie a 3. There were some things I was disappointed with, BUT this felt like Michael Myers from I and II. It felt like a continuation, character wise, from those 2 films. So with that I was extremely happy.

I really loved it, but was anyone else hoping it would retain a little more of the isolated feel of the original? There was just too many people around all the time which kind of killed the creep factor. For example, in the first movie, Michael creeps around mostly alone in the dark while everyone is safe inside their houses for the night. Think about the scene when Tommy sees Michael across the street at the Wallace house. The streets are empty and there is just this shape moving around in the dark. In this one, the streets are heavily populated and crowded and Michael is just sort of making his way through everything. I never felt like anyone was really alone at any time as there was always other characters or people close by at all times. I wanted a little more isolation for some of the creepy stalking scenes.

Fantastic film though.

Will somebody please call Rob Zombie and tell him this is how you make a Halloween film!!!!! This movie was savage!!! One of the best horror films in a few years!! The homage it paid was brilliant and the kills were maney!! The tension in this film was insane and Jamie was a beast as usual. Might go see it again this weekend. Now can we get the original people to go back to Friday the 13th and give us another great sequel???

Fantastic film though.
Saw it last night and the initial Halloween night scene with Michael stalking the neighbourhood was my favourite. Just so direct and to the point. The camera work was superb as the familiar theme kicked in.
I also enjoyed the performances of the Strode woman and felt the film would have benefitted from another ten minutes spent with them at the expense of the
[Show spoiler]new Loomis
character who just didn’t work for me.
Also that theme that kicked in near the extended climax with Allyson Strode about to face Myers was epic. The soundtrack overall just worked for me.
The winks to long time Halloween fans were plentiful but not overpowering.
Finally the extended climax was handled efficiently and I loved the shot of Myers
[Show spoiler]caught in the trap, almost like his rage has consumed him to the point it has completely overpowered any human traits that may have been buried. No panic, even when he is facing his doom. The final shot of the three woman was great, I need to see more of these ladies.

4 stars out of 5. That’s my initial hyped reaction. See how I feel when I watch it again on Blu-ray.

For a lot of people this will be their first Halloween film.

I was in a theater with two teenage girls, and they had never heard of this series prior to this one. Shocking I know, but I swear it is true, as a 31 year old being asked to show his ID at the box office to buy a ticket to this film, which also happened. You should have seen the young 17 year old's face when I flashed my license.
WOW ok. Makes sense now. I could try to wonder what is keeping him alive (besides his rage) but you would think that someone would tag him with c4 and blow him to bits it would end him for sure. He's not Chucky so I am sure if his body was blown to bits, he still wouldn't be alive.

Am I right in thinking Myers wasn’t actually coming back for Laurie? He was just heading back to what he knew and that night when he first killed someone?

[Show spoiler]He didn’t seem to be seeking out Laurie or her family and only fixated on her when he saw her in the neighbourhood
or am I overthinking everything?

Oh I know all of that, I wasn't referring to the masks' real world trademarks and ownership, I was talking about their place in "Halloween" canon and showing up in this movie.

I loved the music that played during the opening logos the universal logo and blumhouse logo.

And there was another great piece of music when Laurie and the sheriff
[Show spoiler]are looking for Myers after the babysitter murder

What I’m wondering now is will
[Show spoiler]Jamie lee even come back I highly doubt it and I don’t think Judy Greer will come back either. The franchise will be in a another awkward spot again with having to deal with how Laurie is not around

Also in press interview months back Jamie and David were asked about anymore returning old characters and had a grin and said you’ll have to wait and see
[Show spoiler]I didn’t clock anyone does anyone know what that was about?

Is there any info about an ending change or alternate ending from test audiences did anything get changed

They're likely both getting massive paydays after the success of the film. I'm sure they'll be back.

I thoroughly enjoyed this flick but I prefer the second one as a direct sequel to the first.

3.5/5

Ok the ranking of the films for me now is:

Halloween (1978)
Halloween II (1981)
Halloween III
Halloween (2018)
H20
Halloween 4
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers
Halloween 5
Halloween (2007)
Halloween II (2009)
Halloween: Resurrection
