Well, I don't know how, but those crazy Russians have done it! Compared to the older JsonTheGr8 release (which was fantastic for the time), it's obvious the issues have been fixed.

Firstly the warning screen about the first few minutes not in 3D is back, (as it should be), the right eye is no longer DVD resolution, and the flat scenes (Baseball bat, knitting on the couch et. al.) have been put back into all their 3D glory.

God bless those crazy Russians, now if only we could get an official hard copy...

I feel I need to set the record straight and give credit where credit is due. The original genius that created this amazing release (a labour of love, really) is not based in Russia... The Public Tracker release you have all got your hands on was modified from the original release by the removal of the commentary track and the original mono sound mix. The Russian guy added his audio dub track instead (but left the English 5.1 mix). The video is untouched though, it's the audio that has been modified. The original is hosted on a Private Tracker which I cannot divulge, sorry. Enjoy what we have here for I feel it's the best we will ever get. Just think how many copies of this Paramount would've sold. Oh well.

Having said that, the irony is that Russian pirates have somehow delivered what Paramount couldn't. This is the easily one of the best 3D films EVER and to see it in real 3D is one of the best 3D experiences you will ever have. Even with its flaws, it's evidently an outstanding presentation, literally. That said, you can't get it legally and links mustn't be posted here so all us law-abiding folk must keep hoping in vain that there's a legitimate 3D Blu-ray one day soon...

...because we're all law-abiding, right?
As Bon Scott so aptly said, "and all my friends are gonna be there too"

This is not the same version! There are vast differences as explained in my last post.

He wasn't referring to the JsonTheGr8 version.

Who would have thought that so many people would be interested in this? At least 3D seems to be alive. Keep 3D alive by purchasing as many 3D movies you can! I have been supporting by buying everything being released currently that I can get my hands on.

Thumbs up

I think the level of interest and desperation here shows you the opportunity the distributors are missing!!

Apparently it's the producer that refuses to release this on 3D Blu-ray, not the distributor, but given Paramount's failure to release Hondo and Jackass 3D I find it hard to believe that they tried very hard to change his mind.

This is one of the most entertaining 3D films ever and many people (myself included) would happily pay over the odds to buy it in a decent home 3D format (i.e. not anaglyph). Until we get that option though, I must again remind everyone of the forum rules:

Looks like my projector will not do side by side 3D. Any other options?

I finally saw this. It's amazing but it does not flip automatically into 3D.

My 3DTV has a setting where you can watch SBS 3D and it works flawlessly. Usually it will automatically flip when a 3D BD is playing, but I guess this BD is different.

The movie quality is really good -- not perfect, of course. However, this is the first time I have seen the movie in 3D. There is still some colour tint. The right eye image looks more blue than the left eye. Perhaps this is a remnant of the conversion.

My projector (Sony Hw 50) doesn’t have a SBS setting. Playing the mkv file on a Oppo BDP93. Getting 2 images that will not converge.

You may want to check your manual. I looked in Projector Central's database but didn't see a Sony HE 50 projector. I did see the Sony VPL-HW50ES projector and it will do SBS. Not sure if its the same as you have. So you may want to double check.

Typo on my part. Damn idevices. That is my projector, and that did the trick! That setting is buried deep within the menu settings. Thanks you so very much!
Just sampled a little of the movie and wow!

Ooh, I saw this thread come back to life and I assumed everyone wanted a link to the 3D SBS version I found years ago, which was the awful (but still best at the time) Japanese Video Disc version. It wasn't the right aspect ratio and looked like it had been through the ringer, but still better than the red and blue 3D on the DVD or Blu-ray!

This one looks fantastic from those jpgs, so if someone could point me in the right direction of it I would greatly appreciate it!

There were pages and pages of requests for PMs building up here now, so those have had to go just to keep the thread tidy, there may well be no official release but this can't snowball into a neverending PM request thread for the world.

And what a shame it is that there's no official 3D Blu-ray release of this 3D classic.

I pulled out the anaglyph and watched part of it. It's a terribly illogical movie but I'm stunned by some of the pop-outs. The old man that is holding what has been described as an human eyeball (but doesn't look like anything to me) manages to come just inches from my face and when I say inches I mean less than a foot. I bet it looks great with proper color from a polarized version.

This has to be released eventually. If I win the lottery, I'll make it happen.

I just PM'ed everyone that was asking for a PM. If I missed anyone, let me know and I'll send it your way. Enjoy!!

I really hope it gets a proper release one day. I popped this new Russian disc in my 3D blu-ray player last night. It looked really good!! I didn't watch the whole thing, but I was definitely impressed by what I saw.

UPDATE: The initial link I PM'ed to everyone appears broken. I've sent a corrected link to everyone.
