What were you using before when you had the flickering? I've been trying to figure out if the flickering is a disc issue or a TV one. Since you had the issue but apparently resolved it when switching to a new TV I'm thinking it might be evidence that this is a TV issue after all.

Watched the 4K again for the 3rd time already.
If I'm nitpicking, I'm not a fan of the color timing. I know there's a long history and a ton of debate but the Halloween I grew up with had a warm look to it and the night scenes were bathed in blue moon light. This release just looks too cool. It's probably more accurate to what was actually filmed but because of that, it certainly doesn't look like they are in Illinois in the fall. It feels like spring time because of the color and bright greens. This is the Halloween I remember, not the one on the right (ignore the captions. I disagree). ![]() Still a solid release with good grain, resolution and excellent sound mix. I just miss the old color timing... |

The look might be yellower in that shot. And there's nothing wrong with preferring it that way.
But nobody, surely, is fooled into thinking it's Illinois at the end of October just because of that? |

watched last night (of course) as was saving it for the special day
Was v impressed, fantastic clear detailed image, I preferred the colours and saw things I'd not spotted previously. Clearly saw the shape in the car behind Loomis whereas previously recognised the car, but not the face in the car What an awesome film too, did a double header of The Haunting (Original version, boy this needs a 4K release!!) followed by this, great stuff |

Which begs the question....why have the movie set in IL if you can't make it look like IL? Especially if the location really doesn't have any influence on the story.

And because a lot fewer people actually know what it should look like than actually do. That majority that either don't or maybe think they ought to are likely to accept that the movie does look as it should. provided it doesn't undermine the storytelling. Which it doesn't. Its perceived, material Illinoisnes is only an issue when people want to validate their home video release preferences, in my experience. |

I thought I would finally join up, as I actually have something to share.
Recently got both the US and UK 4k releases. I thought it was odd that the US release advertises Dolby Vision on the packaging and the disc, but the UK release does not. Even so, the discs are both the same - even swapping from one to the other brings up the resume option. As I still have a 1080p projector, my Oppo 203 is down-scaling 4k discs. Here in lies the problem. There is a limitation of the Oppo 203 which means that any 4k Dolby Vision content will be output at 1080p60. When playing the US disc I had the flashing issue, so swapped to the UK disc and it was exactly the same. There is no issue playing through my 4k TV (which doesn't support Dolby Vision) but the Oppo is outputting at the correct 23.976Hz frame-rate. I ripped the disc and played it back on my media player, which did allow me to output at 1080p 23.976Hz to my projector. No flashing issue, which was a relief as there is no way I could have sat through the whole movie with that going on. So it looks like the flashing is introduced when there is some kind of picture processing going on. In my case it is in the player, but other people may have this issue if the TV is processing the incoming signal. |

Thank you for that detailed information on what seems to be the source of the problem. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable all processing through an LG OLED and Oppo 203? I always try to disable all processing anyway so as not to causing any audio lag and view movies the way the filmmakers intended, so I don't know what else I could disable.

Oh ok. I get the flashing even on a 4K OLED TV that fully supports Dolby Vision. Tried it on my LG OLED and a Sony 900E, flashing on both. Flashing with HDR-10 as well. Regular 1080p Bluray has no flashing at all, so I don't know what the issue is. Gonna have to try a digital rip of the 4K UHD to see if that solves the issue like it did for you.

Didn't think I'd buy this but I found a lone copy at Best Buy and PM'd Amazon for $15, so what the hell.
Took the booklet and disc out of the 35th anniversary digibook I already have and will keep them with the UHD. Put the older transfer disc in the now-empty digibook, I'll just give it away to a friend. |
