I finally got around to cleaning up the list, with release dates and full titles. So if you don't want to watch the video, you can still see at a glance what titles are being released.

8 was oddly absent. Not really understanding that one.

Not on PS4 yet. 7 and 9 are already on PS4, but 8 isn't.

I might go for XII: Zodiac Age since I never got around to the original and don't have a PS4.

I played it for the first time last year (or early this year, I forget) and it is a great game, though the "programming" of the characters takes some getting used to to optimize. Nothing too bad though if you are a JRPG player.

It's believed the reason for the exclusion is copyright issues with the song "Eyes on Me".

Hopefully it comes out at the same time in Japan then since that will increase the odds of it displaying in English.

It was kinda funny while watching the direct I had just finished saying to my kids that I really enjoyed VIII when they announced the list..."VII, IX, X".
We all laughed that VIII was excluded.

Like I wrote in the Xbox One thread, I'm more of a PlayStation guy but still very happy about this as it means more people will get to experience these games. And with the Switch, it's kinda like it's coming home since the series began life on the NES back in the day.

Here's hoping VIII will come eventually, to all platforms.

Apparently they lost the source code to 8. (According to this video)

But it's on PC. Surely they could use that as a base if not use it as an outright port so I'm not giving that theory any weight.

There are several things they could do if they wanted. They could take the original PC files they have and reverse engineer or decompile them and try to recover as much of the code as they can. I am not 100% sure SE truly wants to deal with VIII any longer as the game really did not do very well.

Wiki says it was the 7th best selling Playstation game. Lifetime sales of over 8.5 million copies sold across all platforms as of 2013. There's plenty of other games in the series that have sold far less that have gotten more treatment than this one.

I understand that but development times + cost + enhanced scheduling due to movie + IX being developed at the same time VIII was a disappointment for square in so many ways after VII. This game hailed from a time where Squaresoft almost went bankrupt.

Currently to date lifetime it has sold 8.8 million copies for a total of 552 million, its predecessor sold 13 million copies for a total of 903 million dollars.

And? No final fantasy has sold as much as 7. You really can't argue 8 was a failure. You have no leg to stand on there.

Sure I can

in 2 years Final Fantasy XV total sales has surpassed 8.1 million units worldwide

Lifetime 8 only hit 8 million that's 17 years

Oh so basically ALL final Fantasies are failures then, according to your deductions? FF8 is listed as square enix's sixth highest selling game of all time. Quit trying to argue it was a failure. It wasn't. It sold more than almost every final fantasy coming to switch.
