Phew, finally found a Best Buy that let me reserve this in store! Every location near me said that the UHD was in stock and I would reserve it but would get an email 20 mins later saying it’s unavailable. Took me 3 tries. It’s $29.99 at Best Buy and over 40 bucks everywhere else (even amazon.ca) so it was either Best Buy or no dice.

Anyway I’m gonna pick it up after work, I know what I’m doing tonight.

I’m curious, as I haven’t actually seen a copy in person yet, is this covered in ugly bilingual packaging?

Yep. The front only has small French text underneath the big English but the spine looks terrible. When I picked it up and saw the spine I said FFS.

Yeah, screw it. The closest Best Buy that had this in stock is an hour and a half away from my house by transit and it only cost me $1.89 more than what I would’ve spent at Best Buy to get it expedited from Amazon UK. I also didn’t feel like schlepping my ass all the way out there and back. So I’ll have it in like 2 days.

My Best Buy didn't have it. I was told I would have to order on Best Buy Online. So, I walked a couple stores down to Target and picked it up for $24.99 less $1.25 for using the Target Red Card and then sold the code for $5.50 making the cost before any tax $18.24.

Love this high-finance.

My comments on the grain aren't a complaint either but an observation. It still looks plenty filmic and there's now a depth to the lighting that the SDR Blu-rays lack, I just wish that they hadn't killed the reflective suits in the Kryptonian council scene because they SHOULD be bright. It's odd because the HDR is so well-tuned otherwise, keeping the lighting nice and silky and reserving the brightest speculars only for moments where you'd really expect them to be bright - alas, that doesn't extend to them funky reflective suits.

I'll give it another viewing in Dolby when I get my OPPO back in the next few days, but I can't imagine that it'll improve it all that much.

I really like the way the suits look on the UHD. They still seem suitably bright, and they no longer seem to be competing with the actors' faces.

But to be fair, that could be a matter of personal taste.
